Girl number eight is me. I do the usual of walking to the torches and exiting the glade. I’ve already done it three Samhains before.

While in the past years, I was fine with getting caught by any guy, this year is going to be different. The last half year I’ve developed a relationship with Cerridwen’s brother. I know, he’s 3 years younger than me. But I really like him and really want to have a Samhain child. I feel he is the guy I want to reincarnate my ancestors with. I already had a few tumbles with him in the hay, but I can’t do any vaginal sex with him. I might get pregnant outside of Samhain and then I won’t be having any Samhain children. That is why I need to find Zayden and get his Samhain child tonight. I can’t wait to not just marry a guy whom I know loves me very much, but to also have a child that is meant for greatness. It’ll be my dream of a perfect family come true.

I follow the path all the way to the river, but before I cross the bridge I stop. This is where I stray. See, Zayden came up with a plan to make certain we will meet each other. The river has a spot with some really large grey boulders. That is where Zayden will be waiting for me. All I have to do now is stray to the left, and follow the river all the way to where Zayden is waiting for me. It’s perfect.

Except … did Zayden mean my left, when going from the glade to the village? Or his left, from the village into the forest?

“Oh no.” I sigh.

I should have asked him if the spot was upstream or downstream. Which side should I stray?
