First assignment

Captain Warren stepped into the room with his assistant Miriam. Jillian knew what this meant. There was something going on that would have high priority. This was going to be no ordinary meeting. Miriam was holding a batch of folders, and it meant there was a priority investigation coming they would need to focus their attention on.

"I need your attention everyone. But before we get started, I'd like to introduce our newest member, Detective Jillian Everly. A lot of you know her as Joe's youngest daughter. A lot of you know her as one of the smartest beat cops to come out of the academy in quite some time. She's earned her stripes, and she's earned her detective's badge. Stand up Jillian so we can all see you."

Jillian stood up, a little embarrassed by her introduction. Everyone gave her a round of applause. This only made her turn a deeper shade of red. She wasn't used to this type of praise. Her work did most of the talking for her.

After it was over, she sat back down, and the Captain continued. "Miriam, if you would, please pass out the folders." He waited as he gazed grimly at each detective seated at their desk. His gaze finally fell on Jillian, and she had a feeling this case would involve her most of all. Once Miriam was finished, she returned to the Captain's side. "What you have been given is all the information we have on the latest organized crime family that has carved out territory it calls its own right here in the heart of Badger City. While there is very little evidence of it, they are partnered with one of the largest Mexican cartels ever to invade this country. The Endiva Cartel. The head of this new crime family is Abrianna Castellano. She is into everything from **** to slavery, which makes her very popular with the cartels. Most recently there have been gang style executions of local **** dealers and suppliers who refuse to cooperate with her. We need someone to go undercover to find evidence that ties the Castellano family to the Endiva Cartel, and to the killings. Unfortunately, we only have one female detective in our midst as of right now. Abrianna is into women, though it is said she likes men as well. Right now, we don't have much of a choice. A woman can get closer to her than a man can." He paused and looked right at Jillian. "So I am asking Jillian Everly to be our undercover operative."

Jillian looked around at everyone. Every eye was focused on her. This was what she trained for at the academy. This is what she wanted. At the same time, it made her feel uneasy that her first big case should be undercover, and that it involved a major player in the world of crime. But she knew she couldn't refuse taking the case. Steeling her nerves she replied, "I accept the assignment, sir."

The Captain smiled at her. She was just like her old man. He never turned down anything. Thank you, Detective Everly. Come see me and Miriam in my office. We'll give you a cover story and tell you where you should go to make contact. We do have a mole on the inside. That's how we got this much information. However, the mole hasn't been heard from in quite some time, which is why we're also sending you in. You sure you want to do this?"

"With all due respect, this is what I trained for. I won't back down now."

The Captain smiled. "I expected as much from Joe's daughter."
