Joseph took a moment to answer. The women waited patiently, letting him process.

Finally he spoke. "I feel like I've gotten nowhere asking Beth this, but I'll try anyway. What do you want?"

Beth chuckled as Kate responded. "Beth told me you'd ask that. That's a complicated question, Joseph. I'm still coming to terms with how I've been altered. I want a lot of things. I want to establish my own practice, I want an ice cream cone, I want to volunteer more often, and I want sex. That doesn't mean I'm going to try to get all of those things right now. Right now, what I want more than anything, is to try to help you with your struggles."

She paused, searching for the right words. "I... I have a hard time formulating what I want in a relationship with you. I can think of ideas - therapist, girlfriend, stranger, sexual partner - but I can't really assign a preference in my head. I can only gauge them by what would be best for you. Since you're not sure, I'm not sure either."

Joseph was finally starting to understand. "So you can't conceive of a preference, but maybe if-"

"Oh, for God's sake!" Beth interrupted. She stormed over to the two and grabbed Joseph's hand, placing it firmly on Kate's right breast. "Just fuck! Joseph, you know you want to!"

Kate responded by arching her back and leaning forward, pressing her soft flesh into Joseph's hand. He made to withdraw it, then left it there. "Kate, you're ok with this?"

She took his hand in hers and pressed it even more firmly against her chest. "Of course. If it contributes to your well-being and happiness, it's all I want."

"But didn't you say you had a partner - a woman?"

Kate shook her head. "That was hypothetical. I am, in fact, a lesbian, but that hardly matters here. My sexual preference takes a backseat to what you want, Joseph. If you want to have sex with me, I want to have sex with you. Besides, I have to admit that this feels good to me."

"But being penetrated by a man?"

She sniffed. "Not my first choice, but neither was having this conversation with you. Honestly, though, I've never tried it. Would you like to have sex with me?" She once again pressed his hand into her chest. He thought he felt her nipple harden even through her bra.

He stammered. "I mean- obviously, on some level, but-"

She cut him off by leaning forward to kiss him. After the shock wore off, he began to kiss her back. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Beth stealthily leave the room. He broke it off.

"But Dr. Brown, this isn't right! Isn't this basically ****? You don't have any choice in whether or not you do this!"

As he spoke, she smiled coyly and began to unbutton her blouse. "Joseph, you're overthinking this. I can assure you that I do have a choice. I'm compelled to do what's best for you, but I'm choosing to express that via sex. How many times have you chosen to communicate affection, trust, dislike, or distrust in specific ways?" She slipped her blouse off and reached behind her back to unclasp her bra. "Now, you clearly want sex. Beth explained the outlines of your relationship with her, but that doesn't apply to us."

As her magnificent breasts were revealed, Joseph swallowed hard. The psychiatrist made a very convincing argument, one his erection supported. She was idly toying with her hair, smiling at him encouragingly.
