Yes I do

I crawled back into bed after the dishes and stared at my phone. Drafts slowly drifted in and out of form on my screen as I considered what I wanted to text Rina. This definitely seemed like the kind of activity you wanted to ask about in person, especially when you haven’t seen someone in a while. “Hey, do you want to fuck my girlfriend while I watch?” is not the opener most people would go for; those who would go for it, meanwhile, are likely not the kinds of people we’re looking for.

Nia came in from changing over the laundry and stretched a bit as I typed. Old habits from swim club died hard. Not like it was a bad thing in this case. I opted to put the phone down then join her in lieu of staring vacantly at the screen. This seemed like something I should run by her before sending to Rina anyways, so might as well have the discussion while doing something as a couple.

Emery: I think we should ask Rina if she’s interested.

Nia: I’m down if you are. How should we ask though?

Emery: I’ve been thinking about that for a while. In my opinion, it would be best to do it in person in a low investment way.

Nia: “Low investment”, like, not super engaging?

Emery: Sort of. I don’t want to invite her out to dinner or an activity of some kind, then spring it on her. Rina isn’t a pushover by any means, but even if she wasn’t into it she might still feel like she needs to stay until we’re finished. Make sense?

Nia: Yeah totally. You don’t want her to feel trapped.

Emery: That’s exactly what I mean.

Nia and I slipped into bed as we finished stretching and considered the best course of action.

Nia: What about a walk in the park outside of campus? The weather’s been nice lately, and it’s easy for her to duck out if she wants.

Emery: That’s a good idea, but isn’t it rather public to be having a conversation like that?

Nia shot me a highly incredulous glare.

Nia: Oh is it? Weren’t you the one who fucked me in the park’s forest after class last year?

I blanked and got severely flustered at the recollection. There really wasn’t anything I could argue with.

Emery: Uh, yeah…Point taken, I suppose.

Nia: Gonna make me jealous if you’re too considerate hun. Seems backwards considering why we’re asking her out.

I couldn’t help but smile at that. The jealousy wasn’t the primary turn on in my case, but it was absolutely a bonus.

Emery: Alright alright, don’t roast me too hard before bed.

Nia: Sorry, acting kinda silly since I’m tired.

Nia rubbed her eyes as she spoke. As if summoned by relevance, a yawn **** its way out of me. I shimmied closer to Nia and started getting comfortable.

Nia: And also mayyybe feeling sorta hyped.

Emery: Yeah?

Nia: Well…honestly I’ve been feeling pretty damn nervous about this for the last month. Now that we have an actual goal I feel like things are falling into place.

Emery: That’s wonderful. I’m feeling pretty good about it too, I think. Even if she says no, I’ll be happy that we put ourselves out there.

Nia yawned as well and snuggled me into spooning her side, arm underneath my head and leg between mine.

Emery: Hold on, I’ve got to finish the text before we sleep.

Nia: You’re going to text her at this hour? Are you a psychopath?

I looked up at her smugly.

Emery: You can schedule automated texts these days. I’ll have it sent to her around six-ish.

Nia raised her eyebrows and marveled blearily at the phone, the lack of sleep making her seem even more impressed with this newfound knowledge.

Nia: Damn Em, the future really is now hehe.
