Friends, a dedicated nurse, and a backhanded apology

When Shuichi woke up, his immediate view was of a set of apron clad breasts dangling above him. "Oh thank goodness you woke up! I'm glad your injuries weren't serious." Mikan shouts, getting up from over him, wiping away tears from her eyes as she looked him over. As Shuichi looks down at himself, he can feel the bandages around his head and across his chest - it seems Mikan was taking care of you.

"Thanks Mikan." He starts rising, but Mikan puts her arm across his chest, keeping him from trying to sit up all the way. She adds an extra pillow behind his head as the injured detective looks about the room. They seemed to be in a well supplied nurse's office, and he could see Kaede looking at him, smiling in relief, and Tenko, who was looking away while sitting on a chair.

"Glad you came to after that. It looked nasty!" Kaede was about to hug him, then Mikan reminded her to be gentle, so she hugged him lightly. "You were out for a couple hours... you missed orientation, so I'm here to fill you in." Kaede looked back at Tenko, looking intensely at her. "Well? Don't you have something to say?"

Tenko looked over, then sighed before getting up before bowing a bit to Shuichi. "I'm sorry I through you down the auditorium." She sounded like she was forcing herself to say this, the girl looking up and pushing her fingers together. "I should have made sure what was going on before hand, and I overreacted. I just can't stand seeing girls getting bullied."
She looked back at the boy in the bed, looking much more aggressive. "But even if I did overreact, degenerate males shouldn't make cute girls cry, even if they are your property! So I wasn't completely in the wrong there!." She struck another dramatic pose. "So let's just call it even, all right!?"

Kaede lowered her head and sighed, while Mikan blushed at Tenko calling her cute. Shuichi looked confused at the apology, he might have made Mikan cry, but he was trying to cheer her up! and what about her being his - oh right, he forgot about that for a moment. "A-all right... I'll accept that apology."

"Hmph, you better. I'll be keeping an eye on you to make sure you're treating her right." She nods assertively, before looking at Shuichi intensely before strutting out of the nurse's office.

Kaede sighs again, looking at Shuichi as she sits down on the bed. "That was the best we could get out of her, sorry about that. Anyways, I'm also here to let you know what you missed at orientation..." She started talking about how the facilities would work. In addition to a lot of common things like club rooms, cafeteria and sports field, there were these things called Ultimate Labs, each student getting one. They were each tailored to help them cultivate their ultimate talents, and required key cards to access.

"W-we're technically in my Lab right now." Mikan says, blushing a bit. "A-as long as y-you let me..."

"Oh right, that's the other thing." Kaede said, looking between her and Mikan. "Since they learned Mikan was your property after enrollment, they told me to tell you that you have final say if she's allowed to be a student here."

"Wh-what!?" Shuichi was alarmed at this. This was not what he expected at all.

"I-I understand I-if you say n-no." The ultimate nurse said, wiping away tears. "I'it was a dream of mine be-before I realized the truth, s-so if you say you want me to not-"

"Of Course you should still be a student here!" Shuichi shouted, causing both girls to jump. "You have an amazing talent and it's your dream right!? Of course you should pursue it!" He took a few seconds to calm down after that outburst. He hadn't realized any of this when he wrote on Mikan, and the way she talked about giving it up was heart wrenching.

Mikan started tearing up, her face going red. Shuichi almost expected the poor girl to start crying again before she practically tackled him back into the bed, hugging him tight. "Thank you thank you thank you!" She cried out, the impact and squeeze hurting a bit, but he kept his silence.

"That's really great of you, Shuichi!" Kaede nodded, smiling broadly. "Well, I think that should cover it. oh, I should also mention that her things will be moved into your dorm, along with the rest of your supplies. Seeing Shuichi's eyes go wide, Kaede felt like she had to explain the obvious. "Well, She is yours, so when they moved her stuff in, it was obviously set to the wrong room. It belongs with the rest of your things."

Shuichi needed to process this information, putting an arm around Mikan's head supportively. What had he gotten himself into?
