Find Jake.

They sat Jerry down in the living room and gave him instructions. He was to wait there for them and call immediately if anything happened. They were about to leave when Sam had a thought.

"Jerry, if you get hungry or thirsty you should take care of that. Same goes if you need the bathroom. Don't sleep unless we tell you to, though." Jerry nodded, taking in the instructions.

As they got into the car (in perfect synchronization, Janet noticed) Sam glanced around. "We should look for Jake's car." Janet agreed and Sam spoke again. "Since I know Jake so well, it'll probably be best if I detach to think as clearly as- oh, yeah, I'm just parroting your thoughts again." She smiled, then the smile disappeared and her face was blank again. "Done. Jake's parking space is around the corner. It's assigned by apartment number."

Rounding the corner, they saw Jake's beat up old Kia sitting in its usual spot. Janet frowned, but Sam said it was a good thing. "We know that he either didn't go far, or was in someone else's car when he did. If his car was gone we would have no idea where to look."

"Do we have any idea where to look now?" Janet shot back. Sam didn't respond to sarcasm in her tone, of course.

"No, but I have an idea." She pointed to the closed-circuit camera overlooking the lot. "We can get footage of the last twelve hours and see if anything's happened."

"How are we supposed to- oh, no. No way." For once Janet had to catch up to Sam's line of thought. "No way, we are not letting you attach to some random asshole again. Or have you forgotten what Jerry did to you? What he had planned after that?"

Sam explained her plan carefully, and though Janet didn't like it she had to admit it seemed airtight. To start, Sam reattached to Janet.

She let out a little sigh. "Whew, I still haven't gotten used to that. It's such a rush! But you're right, we should get to work." They got out of the car and approached the apartment office.
