A week earlier, Michael's little sister Maggie, had come to him in tears. She had just enrolled as a freshman, having earned a partial scholarship and wanted to join a sorority. The Chi Omegas had held a recruitment event which Maggie attended. Everyone was nice to Maggie, but she overheard the four officers mocking her. "No way we're letting that skinny tomboy with the thick nerd glasses in?" asked one of the officers. Maggie could not see them. They were behind a frosted glass door, but she had seen the officers move behind it, and she sidled over. She could see the silhouettes and hear voices but did not know them well enough to know whos voice was whose.

"Hell no," said another voice. "She can go join some nerds playing board games and X-Box on Saturday night because they don't have dates."

Maggie had run straight to her brother's small garage apartment off campus. She was in tears and told her big brother everything. Michael calmed her down, and told her she was too good for those snobs.

Eventually Maggie was accepted at another sorority, but Michael, who had always been protective of his nerdy, shy, and brainy little sister was still fuming at the Chi Omegas.

Michael was a double major: psychology and physiology. He also loved to tinker with electronics. It was this combination that led him to invent his mind controlling megaphone.
