Chapter 34 by SG SG

Wait, what?

Lily's a pretty good actress.

Mark started to panic. Did they just give Lily her will back? Then he noticed something. She was sitting, staring angrily at them, but no longer talking or moving.

"Lily, are you mad at us?"

She scowled. "Of course not, that's the whole fucking point! I can't be mad at you anymore! I don't have enough drive to feed myself or go to the bathroom independently, let alone be angry at you! You robbed me of everything." She spoke that last line with vicious bitterness.

"So why are you reacting like that if you're not mad?" Mark was starting to see the logic.

She scoffed. "Are you really that fucking stupid? I'm acting angry because she would be angry about this. None of it's real, it's all make-believe. The fact that I can't actually get mad would infuriate Jen so of course I'm acting mad!"

Jen spoke. "So part of your, um, impersonation of me is being mad that you're impersonating me?"

"Yeah, you got a problem with it?" Lily grumbled. "I can change if you want, because of course I can. I don't get the privilege of being a real person anymore."

Mark cleared his throat. "Uh, Lily, this kind of weird. What if I told you to act like me?"

She rolled her eyes. "Not like I'd have much choice. I'd do it, of course."

Oh, right. "Lily, act like me."

Her whole bearing completely changed. She slumped forward, tears in her eyes. "Oh my God," she said in a shocked tone. "My life is over."

Jennifer chuckled a little and Mark glared at her. Lily just continued to look crestfallen.

Jen spoke up. "So, uh, Lily. You're not actually sad, are you?"

The girl looked up at her, her eyes streaked with tears. "No. Not even a little. It's like there's nothing left in here. God, all my plans, my whole future, it's just... it's just..." she broke down in sobs again.

"Jeez, Mark. Lily's version of you is a real downer. Hey Lily, what was that you said about your plans?"

She wiped her eyes. "I can't even make any anymore! The future's just a giant blank to me! I can't even think of a random number, let alone think of something I want to do!"

Something she said piqued Mark's interest. "Wait, you know you can't come up with random numbers? What if you tried now?"

She sniffled. "Still won't work. Remember, I'm just acting like you. I don't have any real desire, motivation, or creativity. All I can come up with is one. One, one, one."

Jen spoke up. "Ok, how about between 1 and 100. And try really hard not just let it be one or two."

The young woman just sobbed and said "What do you think? It's three. I don't have it anymore. All I can do is imitate, I'll never have a new thought again."

This is heavy.
