Does a name stick out?
Jane's suggestion.
"Lysandra" Jane says quietly. The entire group, including the Carno, look at her. The Carno dips its head down and nudges Jane earning a quick hug from Jane, and the rest smile and nod their heads. You look from person to person in confusion.
"Lysandra is the name of a woman from a bedtime story most mother's tell their daughters" Annabel explains when she notices your confusion.
"No one knows if she was a real person or not, but the story is the same regardless of where someone lives" Annabel continues.
"Long ago when our ancestors first came to this continent there were two factions that emerged. For the purpose of keeping the story short, one was good and one was evil. The evil faction had taken over almost the entire continent, and pushed the good faction back to their last city. The good faction's kind and queen were killed in battle and all seemed lost. In their time of need princess Lysandra took control of the situation and led her people into battle and won victory after victory against the evil faction. The result was the destruction of the evil faction and freedom and prosperity reigned across the land. That's at least the gist of the story" Annabel finished.
"Lysandra was a symbol of liberation and equality" Yvette adds stepping up and petting the Carno's nose. The Carno turns its head to you almost as if expecting you to agree with the name.
"Considering this is the first creature we've encountered here that seems like an appropriate name given what we intend to do" you reply. "Lysandra it is. Welcome to the family" you say addressing the newly named Carno. In response Lysandra let's out a happy chirp and turns to Jane to give her cheek a big lick almost knocking her off her feet. Jane laughs and strokes Lysandra's nose fondly once she gains her balance again.
"Well I know I'll sleep a little better with Lysandra out there at night. I don't know what else is out there yet, but I'm betting she's not the only Carno roaming around, and I'm betting there are some even bigger ones out there" you say casually staring at the forest. You turn back around to see the rest of the group staring at you.
"Well on that cheerful note let's get back to traveling" you uneasily chuckle. "Sorry guys, my mind has been primarily keeping all of you safe lately" you say rubbing the back of your head nervously.
"What was it that you and Nadine talked about" Annabel asked you looking concerned. "It wasn't just sex and magic was it" she adds.
