Chapter 2

What's next?
A new dawn.
Our deal settled, and with the Genie tucked away back in the cave, I make my leave from the camp once again. While I'd love to make wishes right away, I don't dare. I think best on a full stomach and, other than berries I'd found while walking the trail, my belly was empty. Thus I spent the next several hours checking my traps and baits for any catches, thinking my next moves out carefully in regards to my wishes, and taking care of other various chores. The normalcy of these actions help me to gather my thoughts and plan my next actions out accordingly.
While out on the trail, I fill three extra canteens with fresh water before heading back to camp with the day's acquired supplies.
Once home, I prep a fire and begin dressing my game. Three squirrels, two hefty rabbits, some fish, a large pheasant, and a young fox. Once gutted and cleaned, I set them in my smoker to cure. As for the here-and-now, I fix myself a helping of root vegetables, more berries, water, and some dried meat I'd made beforehand. Mayhap not much to some, but to a bushman who's practically lived alone for most of his life, it was a delicious king's feast of extravagance the likes of which someone in my position can rarely afford.
With the dinner ready, I made my way back to genie's lamp and brought it outside. "Alright, Genie, time to awaken." As I say this, my hand rubs gently against the lamp's shiny exterior. As before, a swirl of blue smoke pours out, and, within it, the now familiar visage of a beautiful young woman. Genie. She seems to uncurl, much like a cat in a sunbeam, and looks around, a light, carefree smile on her face.
"Ah, my Master. Have you decided on your wishes?" Her soft voice dances in the wind, seeming to tangle within my hair and caresses my skin.
"I believe I have, my dear Genie. For my first wish," She leans in, as if to ensure that none of my wording is missed, "I wish for all the powers of the universe! Every super-power and ability ever bestowed upon the world, be it through reality, story, or imagination!" Her eyes go wide as the magic seems to erupt from her. For the briefest of moments, all the world's possibilities become clear to me. Every single falling leaf, every path that every drop of rain shall ever take is suddenly mapped out perfectly in my mind, every action, thought, and fate of every being on Earth in it's past, present, and future, is held within my ever clearing mind. But quickly, before it becomes too much, I shut those thoughts behind me. I didn't want to see forever, not now, not in this moment. There was too much to do in the here and now, forever will wait, as it always has, until a later date. In the present, Genie was staring at me in awe, for with just a simple wish, I had effectively made myself a God. Perhaps it was beginning to dawn on her what her promise truly meant now, but by the resolve in her eyes, with her freedom one step closer, I knew she'd comply.
"Now Genie," I see her back tense. With all I had now gained, what more could I wish to attain? "I want you to cast your eyes before you, to the food I've laid out. I wish," Curiosity and fear seem to mix on her face as she takes in the simple meal before her. Meats, berries, vegetables, water, simple. What could I have her do to these? The question practically burns across her face. "I wish for this simple dinner to become your dream meal! I wish for it to be as you would desire it!" Her eyes fly over to me as the meal shifts, changes, transforms from a simple wildman's dinner into a grand feast. Water turns to wine, steamed roots are now grand mashed potatoes as light and fluffy as clouds, simple squirrel and rabbit is changed into lamb and ox, even the fish, once just slim catches from the rivers, are now Bluefin Tuna dishes, crab from the lakebed is now buttery lobster, plain berries turn to full berry cakes and pies. Genie's eyes go wide and her mouth begins to water as the sights and smells surround her. She looks to me and I give a wide, exited smile. "To the end of your slavery as a genie! Eat, drink, and savor the taste of your new life!" As I cheer, Genie descends upon the feast. Her appetite for the meal almost as powerful as her desire for freedom.
"Now, for my third and final wish! Genie, are you ready!" I watch as she gives me a thumbs up, the only sign that my words were, just barely, reaching her. She was hardly paying attention to me, so lost she was in the delicious feast and the high of her soon-to-be freedom. "Genie; for your third and final wish: I wish..."
I wish for?
