Fulfilling a Promise

Since the exam was the next day, Isaac wasn’t required to be at school due to the designated “study day” currently in effect. Most students spent the day in the library out of habit, but Isaac ordinarily preferred the quiet of his own home. However, there was something on school grounds that required his attentions.

“Dude, she is right there. Just ask her out.”

“No! Are you crazy, there are way too many people here, if she says no then I’ll be humiliated!” Ben was panicking as Isaac grabbed his hand, unsuccessfully trying to pull away as his bigger friend dragged the dorky boy towards his future prom date. As they neared, Ben stopped struggling lest he look stupid in front of the bemused Martha, whom Isaac had just tapped on the shoulder.

“What can I do for you, Isaac?” Martha’s heavenly smile seemed to increase in stature upon sighting Ben avoiding her gaze behind him.

“Ben has something he wants to say to you.”

With that, he turned around and went home, looking to get some final study and then an early bedtime before the exam tomorrow.
