Race time

Lauren and her climbing crew was ascending Half Dome. The group consisted of Lauren, James, Mike, Frank and, much to Lauren's annoyance, Carol and Beverly. Carol was a slightly older experienced climber. She had clearly been alpha lady of the local climbing scene before Lauren's arrival, and watched bitterly as Lauren stole the spotlight. And Beverly was the a new girl and the talk of the town. She was nearly six feet tall, and the boys all talked about how she could supposedly climb faster than anyone around!

Lauren moved from handhold to handhold. She leaned back and looked to the rest of the crew ascending on their own lines.

"Hey guys, how about a challenge?" Lauren said. "Let's race to the top!"

"I'm game!" Mike said. The others all nodded in agreement. Lauren smiled. This was her chance to show up the new girl and impress everyone!
