Farm Work

"I think we're a little old for pranks." Lauren said to Jade.

"That's good to hear!" Jade said. "Anyways, let's get you started with work!"

What followed was several grueling hours. Lauren never did manual labor: it was a point of pride for her. Now she was hauling feed, harvesting vegetables, weeding and watering. The novelty of looking cute in front of the farmhands laboring in the fields quickly wore off as soon Lauren was sweaty and exhausted. Jade seemed hardly affected, never losing her plucky attitude or seeming to feel the heat at all.

"Alright Lauren, now I'll need you to shovel out the barn." Jade handed Lauren a flat shovel.

"Shovel... what?" Lauren asked through panting breaths.

"Well... shovel the shit." Jade grinned.

Then she skipped off to her own work, leaving Lauren fuming. This wasn't fair! Lauren was a refined debutante, and now she was supposed to shovel shit? Cursing her mother for the hundredth time, Lauren got back to work...
