You don't act on your feelings
Despite your intense attraction to Rumi, you still respect her as your teacher, and more importantly, your stepmother. You're also able to control yourself due to your character as well as not wanting to do something to hurt your father.
You decide to bury all those feelings down and try to play the dutiful son. Despite the burning desire you have for your stepmother, you never acted on it. The burning desire eventual die down to a warm ember, ever there, warm and fiery, waiting for the chance to blaze once more. A year later, you get accepted into a college in the prefecture. Despite the proximity, you moved out, giving the excuse that you want to concentrate on your studies even though the real reason was you need to get away from her before you do something you regret.
