Chapter 15 by Manbear Manbear

Does the rest of the night pass peacefully?

No, you are woken by Ceinwyn leaving camp.

(Almost all of this thread has been written by Genocideheart in 'A late night encounter with the druid' I just added a little in the beginning for the sake of continuity)

She's good, you realized as you followed the strange woman from the camp. You didn't even notice when she slipped from your side. If it hadn't been for the sudden coolness you might not have woken in time, but you did, and now you follow the druid down the hillside to see what mischief she is up to. You had no time to dress or even find your axe, so wearing nothing but your homespun trousers and armed with your short sword you slip after Ceinwyn as she wanders further from the camp. Is she in league with the demon armies after all?

As the night clouds part, the moon shines down on a small pool of water formed in a cold mountain stream and you see a figure standing knee deep in the sparkling water. Ceinwyn is there, naked and washing the dirt off her skin.

She hasn't seen you yet, and and although you feel a little ashamed of your suspicious thoughts, you find it hard not to look at the girl you're going to be traveling with.

Hidden behind a thick, leafy bush, you appraise the young druid. She is quite a petite woman underneath her clothes, and a few things about her exposed body surprise you. When you first saw her, you thought that her hair was brown, but it was just the mud and grime that caked itself on when she was hiding underneath the cottage. Underneath all of that is a set of wavy, ginger-red locks that shine brilliantly under the moon. You also notice that beneath the dirty clothes she was wearing for most of the day, the girl is surprisingly well-endowed. Her breasts aren't the largest you've seen, but they are significantly bigger than Tri'lanna's. Last and most breathtaking though is her skin. Beneath the washed-away dirt is the whitest, fairest skin you have ever laid eyes on, unblemished and as smooth as the surface of the stream she is standing in.

"Moonlight on ivory." You say, thinking aloud.

Ceinwyn starts at the sound and whirls around staring in your general direction, squinting her eyes, trying to penetrate the gloom. Not wanting to scare her, you step out from behind the tree slowly, with your hands up in the air. The young girl doesn't relax at all when she notices that it's you.

"It's just me, Ceinwyn. I'm sorry if I scared you. I was worried about you." You explain weakly.

The druid is speechless for a moment, just staring at you, naked from the waist up, but then she nods her head slowly, keeping her eyes locked on yours. You stand there at the edge of the stream, waiting for her to cover herself or to exit the water, but when you realize that Ceinwyn is making no move to do either, you shrug your shoulders and get a little closer.

For a long time, all you hear is the sound of water slapping against your skin and the rushing sounds of the stream. Eventually you risk a glance in her direction, and notice that Ceinwyn has stopped bathing and is just standing there in the water, motionless. Her back is facing you, so you can't see her expression, but you can see that she is trembling.

"Ceinwyn, what's wrong? You're shaking." You say with worry.

"I've been thinking." She answers in a shaky voice. "About what Master Derreth asked me to do."

You wait patiently, as she tries to collect her thoughts and summon the courage to speak up.

"...and I don't think I can do it. I have no idea how to stop Vanarim, or how to use the Shining Stone, or even what to do next." Ceinwyn blurts out, her tone unsteady and full of doubt. "M-my mind is just so blurred, I just can't see anything beyond tomorrow. The burden my master gave is too heavy, it's too much for me."

"Don't say that. It's just because so much has happened that nothing is clear to you." You counter, trying to assuage her fears with reasoning, "If you give it time, I'm sure you'll find the answer."

Ceinwyn spins toward you, her voice slowly growing frantic. "But where am I supposed to look?! Did Master Derreth just expect the answers to just come to me? I keep thinking about my training, about everything I've learned in all the years I've lived here, but there's nothing that I can remember that even helps! All I know for sure is that, if I go against the Great Pretender, he'll kill me!"

"I might have been able to this, if there were other druids to help, but it's just me. Just me! Don't you understand, Hans? I'm all alone!" She says, "I-I just don't know what to do!"

Can you think of anything to say?
