They know where you are, but can't take you back

You know you can't avoid the topic of your family forever. Even if you stay here in the Everlasting Oaks for the rest of your life, eventually they will have to visit the kingdom. The moment they see you, they'll know Basil was behind your disappearance and... Well, you have no idea what will play out if that happens. Part of you knows that they don't care, that they never wanted you in the first place. If they saw you, they'd play it off as a trick of the light or something. But another part of you, the one who knows that you were at least a bargaining chip, worries that war would break out and you'd be **** to leave the faun you love. So, with a heavy heart, you go and confront your soon-to-be husband.

He's in his office and smiles brightly when you enter. "Forrest, my love!" he says, getting up from his seat, "Come in, come in!"

Or... Maybe you can put this off a bit longer? "Sorry, my sweet Basil." you say, backing away to the door, "I didn't realize you were working, I can come back later..."

"Nonsense!" he says, walking towards you, "I could use a break anyway. Besides, I never seem to get enough time with you. The kingdom can wait for you."

"Are you quite sure?"

"Positive, my love." He wraps you in his arms and places a kiss on your curls. "Now, tell me what is on your mind. You have that face that looks like you ate a lemon when you're thinking too hard."

You pout at him, but when he simply raises an eyebrow at you in response you know you can't get out of this. "I'm sorry love, but I can't help but worry about... Well, my 'family', if you can even call them that."

"What about them?" he asks, face growing dark, "Have they contacted you?"

"No, not a word." you say, "But, what will happen when they see me here? What if they decide to take me back? And what will happen to you? If they tell everyone you're a kidnapper and a thief..."

"They won't make a problem, they can't." Basil interrupts, gently lifting your face to look at him, "Everyone knows that I was going to ask for you. All the realms, from the dragons to the humans, knew I was going to make you my bride. Oh yes, I certainly didn't keep my end of the bargain, but only because your father and his ridiculous demands. They can't make a fuss out of it because what he did was so much worse. Trying to get more land out of me for your hand breaks the treaty my father and the others signed to keep the peace. No one would fight me on taking you and your father... He simply can't risk the fallout that would come from basically admitting to breaking the treaty and trying to use his child to extort a fellow kingdom."

"So, they can't take me away?"

"Not without bloodshed. I'll give them their 'compensation' for you when your brothers take the throne if it becomes too much, but I doubt they'll fight for it. A strong ally is worth more than the gold they asked for you."
