Chapter 8 by Spring Spring

What Happens now?

Flynn Makes it to Fyham

When the Angel disappeared I got a notification on my HUD that informed me I had completed a hidden quest by being mind controlled myself. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough XP to level up.

After brushing myself off from the incident, I continued on my way to Fyham. I didn’t know what my plan was to be when I got there, so I thought about it along the way. After a couple of hours of walking the path I was on collided with a better kempt road. This must have been the Crimson Street Keffany had mentioned earlier. A dead giveaway was that the road’s cobblestones all had a dull red color. A sign at the intersection informed me I only had 4 miles left before I reached Fyham.

On my way to Fyham I passed a wagon, being led by horses, hauling what I thought looked like cabbages. There were 3 Orcs manning the wagon. They were very humanoid, The main differences between them and humans was the fact that their skin was green, they were 7 feet tall and they had two tusks for teeth at the bottom of their mouth. They all looked extremely dangerous, so I tried not to give them any excuse to bother me.

Soon after the Orcs, I passed a pair of female elves. They both had long black raven hair, pointy ears and were wearing black robes made of silk. They were skinny and probably were about 6 feet tall. I gawked at them, but they gave me a mean look, so I looked away. I did manage to sneak a peak at one of their gullibility attributes. It was at a 1 and there Constitution was at level 3. That meant it would take 27 total points to move their gullibility to a 10. Looks like I wouldn't be Slide Ruling any elves anytime soon.

As I got closer to Fyham, the foot traffic increased. I was hoping Fyham was a big town, and this much foot traffic gave me hope. I hadn’t had a sip of water or a morsel of food all day, so I was getting hungry and thirsty. I would probably stop at the first tavern or shop I saw in Fyham.

The forest around me had been getting less and less dense the closer I had gotten to Fyham, and at this point, I was basically just walking through plains of farmland. I turned a corner on the road and could finally see Fyham in the distance. From this vantage point I could see Fyham in it’s entirety. It had mighty walls surrounding it and it looked like it was a major port city. I could see ships in the distant horizon on the ocean. A river seemed to cut the city in two. It reminded me of a pre-industrial city back on earth. I was glad I was spawned so close to such a large city. More people meant more mind control opportunities. I really wanted to level up and get new abilities. Slide Rule was fine, but I felt like having other abilities would be useful, It wasn’t smart to just rely on one ability.

I finally arrived in Fyham and was met with the noise and sights of a bustling city. Hawkers were selling their wares on the street sidewalks and many carts and wagons moved along at a brisk pace. Children were running and playing with eachother. Humans, Orcs, and Elves all intermingled with one another. My stomach was growling at this point, but luckily I noticed a tavern nearby.

I walked into the busy tavern and headed to the bar. A cute red headed bartender greeted me there. “Hello there, what can I get for you?” she said happily as she cleaned a beer mug.

“What do you have to eat?” I asked, my stomach audibly growling.

“Well, we have the soup of the day. It costs 1 silver piece for a bowl.”

I rummaged through my pocket and placed a silver piece on the table. The redhead grabbed the silver and soon placed a bowl of hot steaming soup in front of me.

It didn’t look too appeasing, but I was starving. I slowly sipped the soup. It tasted better than it looked.

The bartender studied me while I ate my soup. “You aren’t from around these parts, are you?”

“Is it that obvious?” I said with a chuckle.

“Very. Where you from honey?” She asked as she cleaned the bar area with a towel.

I didn’t know how to reply. “Um, just from a place very very far away.”

“Ha, aren’t we all. not a lot of people in Fyham are born here. Most of us move here for the opportunities. You thinking of staying long or just passing through?”

“That is something I’m still trying to figure out myself.” I responded in between sips of my soup.

I made small talk with the redheaded bartender for awhile. Unfortunately her constitution level was a 2 and her gullibility level was a 5. This meant I would need 10 slide rule points to move her gullibility level to 10. I would try to come back for her another time. I did find her very cute.

Sitting down in the tavern was a good way to pick up on the general vibe of this fantasy world. The tavern folk seemed like the same kind of folk you would see on earth. That is except the fact, that there were Orcs, Elves, and even a couple of Dwarves around and about. I wish The Angel had given me some guidebook to this world. Learning about the lore and customs of this place was going to be a challenge in itself.

A smelly male Orc sat right next to me. I didn’t want to be anywhere near him and his disgusting smell so I got up carrying the rest of my soup in my hand. I turned around to walk to another part of the bar, but accidentally bumped into a female orc walking by. I ended up spilling the rest of my soup all over her clothing. Crap.
