Confrontations: A Wolf Pretending To Be A Sheep, Part 5 - Gun To Gun, Part 4

The scene was a eerie one as Aaron slowly and calmly made his way up the stairs to the fourth floor of the building effortlessly avoiding every trip wire and pressure plate his enemies had set along the way. When Aaron made his way to the top of the stairs it was a bizarre scene because the way in which Aaron moved was strange... He moved in the same shambling kind of way you see zombies in the movies move. He was stooped over, staring blankly at the floor with his arms dangling limply in front of him with his guns in his hands and his feet shuffled along languidly. Had anyone seen this peculiar sight it would have chilled them to the bone.

Aaron reached the top of the stairs but didn't look up as he scanned the door., "It Seems They Didn't Bother To Booby Trap This Door."

One Minute then two went by and Aaron hadn't moved, To anyone who saw him at this moment it looked as if he had died standing up because there were no signs of life as he stood there impossibly still. It was even impossible to tell whether or not he was still breathing... Then without warning he raised his guns and fired through the door. Screams could be heard from down the hall as the bullets tore through the torsos and skulls of several Men, bespattering blood and bone and assorted gore all over the walls, ceiling, and floor.

Aaron could hear angry yelling and screaming coming from either side of the hall beyond the door in front of him but aside from his actions a few seconds ago he still showed no signs of even being alive... He seemed more like a statue, A moment of **** **** captured in time. The angry yelling continued but to Aaron it sounded far away... It sounded like a lifetime ago.

With a sharp inhale of breath, Aaron spun in place and his right leg whipped out, cutting through the air with a sound like a shot being fired and striking the heavy door, causing it to literally explode in a shower of wood splinters and twisted metal. Aaron looked up, a cruel glint in his eyes and a demented smile on his lips as he walked into the hall. Everyone directly in front of him not in an apartment was dead, torn to pieces by his earlier opening salvo.

The shouting to either side of Aaron increased and became more frantic as they began shooting wildly but they were unable to hit him. The gunman on either side of him couldn't believe what they were seeing... At times it seemed as though the bullets merely passed harmlessly through Aaron's body while he stood there looking straight head and at other times he appeared to be in multiple places at once and it only got stranger as he turned his head to look to his right and then to the left... Now while that doesn't see strange I mean Human Children are taught from a young age to look both ways before crossing a street but how many of them can look both ways at the same time? That's what it looked like... Like he was looking in opposite directions simultaneously, not that any of the gunman trying to kill him could see this and if they had they would have doubtless pissed themselves because the look on both of his faces were equally terrifying.

Their fear was reaching its peak and their sense of desperation filled the hall like colorless smoke but No matter how hard they tried they couldn't hit him and through it all his yellow eyes kept staring at them.

If asked every Man would have said that he was looking directly at them but how could that be? Despite the effect he was having on them, Aaron made no move against them as they continued to waste ammunition trying to hit him. After firing hundreds of rounds and nearly killing each other dozens of times both groups stopped firing and knelt behind the barriers they had erected for cover. Aaron's form continued to flicker for several seconds before stopping and when he did each Man felt an invisible hand close around their black hearts. Several of them gasped for breath and clutched their chests, It was a hot night like most nights and couldn't have been lower than 98 degrees but in that hall it felt more like minus 20 and most of the Men could see their own breath.

They reloaded their weapons and looked over the barrier to find Aaron just standing there, staring at the floor like some kind of zombie. One of the Men to Aaron's right pulled the pin on a grenade and hurled at Aaron and on Aaron's left another Gunman did the same at almost the same time. The moment the pin on the first grenade was pulled, the sound of metal scraping against metal made Aaron's eye twitch and a smile worthy of The Devil himself appeared on Aaron's lips.

Both grenades reached Aaron at roughly the same moment and without even looking he stroked the selector switch on the grip of each of his guns and raised them so that the moment that each gun's barrel touched one of the grenades he pulled the trigger and the bullet flattened against the grenade's surface without setting it off or damaging its internal mechanism, sending them flying back the way they came where they exploded killing several of the gunman at each end of the hall and injuring several others.

Aaron's smile grew as he turned, standing back to back with what one could only describe as an exact copy of himself. It was impossible to tell which one was the real Aaron and which was the doppelganger because they had the same build, were dressed the same, and wore the same seemingly insane expression on their pale faces as they each rushed toward opposite ends of the hall.

"I Am The Herald of ****... I Will Raise My Scythe and Cut You From This World... And When I Have Passed By Your Houses It Will Be As If You Never Existed In This Life.," A phrase in a voice he didn't recognize that was at once familiar and yet so foreign echoed across Aaron's mind as he rushed into the deadly hail of lead.

"Why Can't We Hit Him?!," One of the Men roared angrily as he fired round after round toward Aaron's quickly approaching form.

Aaron's movements appeared abnormally slow but in reality he was moving so fast that the perception of the gunman who laid eyes on him couldn't keep up so as a result he appeared to them to be moving slower than he was. As he closed the gap between himself and his would be killers the only thing that could be seen of him was a sharp radiant stream of yellow light that moved from one side of the hall to the other and back again.

It only took Aaron a couple of seconds to reach the left end of hall and when he did he stopped in front of the gunman who had just shouted in frustration and looked down at him, a look of disdain clearly etched on his pale face. The Gunman attempted to shoot Aaron but his gun was empty.

"Too Bad.," Aaron's quiet voice shook the hall, His breath visible as he spoke and without another word he pressed the barrel of his Tec-9 against the crown of the Man's head and squeezed the trigger twice causing the Man's entire head to explode. Three other Men who were further behind the barricade let out horrified screams before pointing their guns at Aaron and firing but Aaron avoided them with ease.

One of the Men stood up angrily and pointed his gun at Aaron who smiled and stepped to the side just as a bullet from the opposite end of the hall passed over his shoulder and struck the man in the left side of his head. The gunman's eyes rolled back in his head and he involuntarily pulled the trigger multiple times, sending several bullets flying down the hall with lethal effect.

Aaron quickly took care of the five remaining Men, The barricade providing little to no protection against Aaron's superior weaponry.

After quickly making sure that the Men he had shot and those caught in the blast from the grenade were indeed dead, Aaron turned and dashed down the hall where his doppelganger continued to expertly dodge the furious onslaught of the entrenched gunmen who grew angrier and angrier with every miss.

When Aaron caught up to his doppelganger it dissipated into a short-lived black smoke as he took its place. Aaron quickly avoided a bullet headed toward his right eye then three aimed at his forehead, jumping up and over the barricade and killing two Men. Aaron landed without a sound not that it mattered with so many shots being fired he'd have a hard time making enough noise to be noticed anyway that is if he weren't already perfectly visible from where each gunman was.

Aaron quickly ducked down and dispatched three of the gunman by shooting through the barricade while maneuvering around a couple of dead bodies killed by friendly fire. Making his way around the second barrier Aaron shot one of the gunman in the chest and another in the face before he could take aim at him, killing both Men before their lifeless bodies could hit the floor.

There were two Men behind the last barricade but instead of firing through the barrier Aaron grabbed a grenade from the belt of one of the dead gunman and before throwing it over the barrier he pressed a button on the top which caused a rapid beeping to begin as Aaron tossed it into the air.

The Men behind the last barricade screamed and began to scramble in panic to get away but it was already too late. The grenade released a white smoke similar to steam a moment after hitting the floor that quickly spread, a split second later the grenade released an electrical spark and a flash of red rippled across the white cloud of steam and it expanded rapidly, engulfing the two Men who opened their mouths to scream but nothing came out.

Within seconds the Men were as withered and desiccated as a couple of 2000 year-old mummies, Their bodies bent and twisted in a manner so ghastly and so horrific that it defies description. The pulsing white smoke scattered and quickly dissipated leaving behind the shrunken, smoking bodies of the two unfortunate Men.

"A Vapor Igniter... Another Banned Piece of Ordnance.," Aaron thought., "Yet Another Piece of Equipment I Bet They Wish They Hadn't Brought Along."

Once it was safe, Aaron stood up and surveyed his handiwork. With the sound of glass shattering, the window in front of Aaron exploded as a bullet tore through his chest, knocking him off his feet but before Aaron's body could hit the floor it flicked out of existence and the real Aaron quickly stood up and fired a single shot from his Tec-9 and the head of The Sniper firing from the building across the street exploded in a haze of red mist.

Aaron stood up from where he had been crouched, leaned back against the wall, and let out a sigh of relief., "Wasn't Sure That Would Work."

Less than a second later Gog's cheery voice filled Aaron's ears., "Despite The Fact That It Was Not Meant To Be Used In This Manner The Alterations You Made To The Light Shield's Circuitry and The Macro You Uploaded To Its Control Software Have Exceeded Expectations Father."

Aaron pushed off from the wall., "Good.," Aaron stated before dropping the Tec-9 and clutching his chest before stumbling backward and falling against the wall, sliding down to the floor. Aaron's breathing accelerated into heavy gasps.

"Father You're...!," Gog's worried voice sounded panickedly through their link.

"I Know!," Aaron cut off.

"But Father...!"

"I SAID I Know!.," Aaron growled through the link before calming down., "I'm Reaching My Limit."

"Father You Have To Stop or... You Could Die.," Gog whined pitifully.

"If I Stop Now They'll Kill Me... It's Not Like There Was Another Way... They Weren't Just Going To Let Me Walk Away and They Definitely Aren't Going To Let Me Go After Killing So Many of Their People."

"I Know But..."

"No Buts My Precious Gog This Is The Only Option Available and You Know It."

"I Know Father. It's Just That... If Your Vitals Continue To Fall Like This Your Mind and Body Could Be Irreparably Damaged."

Aaron chuckled softly as he struggled to his feet., "I'm Well Aware... Believe Me I Can Feel The Strain But They're Not Going To Stop."

Aaron could already hear the pitiful whine from Gog coming so with a smirk he preempted her complaint., "However, I Do Agree With You... The Strain On My Brain and Body Could Very Well Kill Me If I'm Not Careful. Hmm, I Believe I Have Enough Strength To Finish This Floor Then I Think A Change In Tactics Is An Order."

Gog was quiet for several moments then hesitantly replied., "Y-You Have Something In Mind?"

Aaron removed the second Light Shield from his pocket and looked at it with a devilish glint in his eye., "Yes, I Believe I Do."
