Find a hiding place in the hallway

Anna realized she could hide under the water fountain she used to wash her eyes. She crouched down under it, hoping no one would see her from there. Fortunately, everyone was so preoccupied that they were not very observant. Even more fortunately, no one was stopping for water.

Her vision was returning, however, everything looked blurry, like looking through someone else’s glasses. That might have been a good thing. She would probably be a lot more anxious if she could make out every person walking by and individually watch to see if they were looking at her, rather than simply seeing a vague colored blob moving around. As her vision grew sharper, she became more and more aware of the people walking past her. Her heart started beating harder. However, if she was worried about anyone hearing it, it was drowned out by the sound of hundreds of feet walking by.

By the time Anna’s vision had totally returned, the hallway was almost clear. Just a few more seconds and she would be home free….

There! It looked like she made it. However, just as she emerged, another group of students came slowly walking by, chatting and laughing. She quickly ducked back underneath. Her heart was pounding again, and this time, there was no crowd noise to muffle it…..
