Hundreds of people show up

Suddenly, the class bell rang, and students began to crowd the hallway. Hundreds of people were walking by, and who knows what might happen to her skirt in front of them?

Her first instinct was to run away, but people were coming from every direction. If she tried to fight the flow, she would get jostled and bumped into, and that could lead to a very dangerous situation.

Going into the middle of the crowd could conceal her skirt’s precarious position by blocking it with other people’s bodies. If they were packed close enough together, no one should be able to see that far down.

However, if anyone did happen to see there, she would be surrounded by dozens of people who could gawk at her humiliation, and she would be trapped in the middle with nowhere to go.
