Anna steeled herself, then hopped over the salt circle. She walked quickly over to the book, but tried to suppress the urge to run so as not to draw attention to herself. She made it to the table, she picked up the book, and turned around to get back to the circle unencumbered. Safe in the confines of the warding, she sat down to analyze the book, to figure out whether it was what was binding the spirit to this plane. At first glance, it appeared to be an old notebook, remarkably insignificant. Confident the book contained no magic or curses, she opened it up and began to read.

It was a young man's diary, a college aged man as best she could tell, and pretty standard at that. Nothing she could see indicating unfinished business. As she got to the back half of the notebook, the man started to write about a woman he met. Anna could tell that the man had fallen for her and fast, as his language became the flowery sort that lovers have used for centuries. Bored, she skipped ahead to the final entry, reasoning that if there was a clue, it probably happened near the end of his life. She found the last entry.

Dear Diary,
Tonight is the night. I'm taking Genevieve out to bourbon street, and then she's agreed to come home with me. We we're going to wait for marriage to make love, but yesterday Genevieve told me that because she knew we were to be married, we didn't need to wait anymore. I'm certainly excited by the prospect of knowing my fiancée, but nervous as well. I want to do right by her

The entry went on for a few more sentences, but Anna got the idea and stopped reading. She knew what the ghost's unfinished business was, and if she wanted to, she could provide it. She flushed at the thought. Or, she could burn the diary. She wasn't completely certain it was the anchor, but it was her first guess. After thinking it over, she made her decision.
