The Curse

David took a deep breath, knowing there was only one way to ease his guilt, he had to tell Rachel the truth about the curse. With regret heavy in his voice, he began: "Well, I wanted to talk about you... and also about me..."

He hesitated, palms sweating, before continuing: "This might sound unusual, but what I'm saying is the truth. I woke up this morning to find I was cursed, anytime I make a statement, it becomes reality. When you were in the shower and I complained, I accidentally turned you into a girl."

David clenched his fist, too afraid to meet Rachel's gaze as he spoke: "I have to be very careful with what I say or it can have consequences. I'm truly sorry for what happened." He hung his head, waiting for her anger or tears.

But instead of fury, Rachel burst out laughing, bent over and gasping for air between fits of laughter. "Who knew... you could be... so... funny!" she wheezed before erupting into another wave of laughter.

After calming down somewhat, she managed to ask between giggles: "So what was my guy name? Don't tell me it was something dumb like Rachel to Rach or something?" This sent her into yet another fit of uncontrollable laughter.

Rachel's non-stop laughing began to grate on David's nerves. When he snapped back at her in frustration, "Why would I lie about this?", he immediately realized how stupid that question was given the situation.

Changing tack, David asked: "Don't you find it weird that a guy and girl share a dorm?" He stared her down, his irritation momentarily overriding his guilt.

Rachel looked back at him with an amused expression. "Both of those are dumb questions," she said with a smirk. "And I'm impressed you're sticking with this." She glanced down, still smiling broadly as if enjoying the game. "Well, if you're that determined, I guess I have to play along."

Her attitude only infuriated David further. Out of sheer frustration, he practically shouted: "What I say is true and you know it!" The moment the words left his lips, David slapped a hand over his mouth as if trying to physically take them back.

But it was too late. Rachel's demeanor shifted dramatically as the truth of David's statement sank in. Her laughing face transformed into an unreadable mask, leaving him wondering what he'd just unleashed...
