Chapter 4
by Xantinal
Head to breakfast, or look for old games?
Can't concentrate on an empty stomach.
Hearing my stomach growl makes the decision for me. I let the sleeping laptop lie, while I head downstairs in search of sustenance.
On my way down the stairs, I smell something good and get excited. I just remembered that Sarah got up late today too, she's probably making breakfast. I excited hurry down the stairs, and round the corner to the kitchen to see my wonderful little sister frying up some breakfast sausage. She must have heard me coming because she turns to look at me as I come around the corner.
"Yes, I'm making some for you too" she sighs out with fake exasperation in her voice.
"Did I ever tell you that you're the best little sister on the planet?" I ask her, as I walk up behind her and give her a kiss on the top of the head.
"Almost every time you're hungry, and want me to cook for you." she says looking back up at me over her shoulder. A heart melting adorable pout on her face.
Seeing her there making me breakfast, looking up at me over her shoulder. With that adorable pouting look is too much. My lower half starts to respond again. I take a quick half step back to make sure I'm not in danger of poking her before I respond.
"Well than you can be sure I meant it." I said grinning at her. Causing her to glare at me, pout still on her face. Yep really glad I backed off a step..
"Besides, it's not my fault you're the better cook. Want me to take over?" I asked, teasingly reaching for the spatula.
"Oh no." Sarah says immediately puling the spatula away from my grip.
"If I let you cook, then I'll still have to make breakfast only I'll be using the charcoal you cooked to light the grill" She says, teasing me with another flash of the pink little tongue.
I wonder idly for a moment if I could sneak back up stairs to rub another quick one out before breakfast. However we're interrupted by another voice.
"Mmmmm. That smells great!" Patricia, our step mother calls out from the hallway.
Me and Sarah both look in the direction of the voice, before giving each other the same 'always around for free stuff isn't she?' look.
Our father married Patricia a little over 2 years ago. Even though me and my sister were both in high school already at the time, we were still both a little excited about the idea of having a mom, never having known our own. That excitement was quickly extinguished when Patricia showed up. Our father had been dating her for a little over a year before he announced the wedding, and had kept her away from us all that time. He said it was to make things easier for everyone in case they didn't work out. After meeting Patricia though, both Sarah and I suspected it was more along the lines of making sure we didn't chase her off.
First you need to understand that our father's career had really taken off in the last few years, and while we were not rich by any stretch of the imagination. If nothing horrible happened, then by retirement age our dad would a very comfortably wealthy man.
Patricia isn't a terrible person and she does treat our dad well, but she's also obviously in it for the money. We all know it, even dad knows it. I don't think she's going to try to swindle our dad out of it through divorce or anything drastic like that, and dad's already taken steps to prevent that kind of thing. A very biased prenup being one such step. However if he died early from high cholesterol or something I doubt she would mourn for too long.
Patricia is your classic blond bombshell. 5'7", straight blond hair, comically large breasts(at least to me), and very full pouty lips. She looks like a walking advertisement for the bimbo awards. I never quite got the interest in it myself, but then my tastes run contrary to most men. I could understand, intellectually at least, why my father was interested in her.
Sarah and I didn't like her though. We didn't exactly hate her, but if we had a choice she would not be part of the family. However after seeing how happy she made our dad Sarah and I both agreed to keep the peace. After all, we'd both most likely be moving out soon anyway. Me about to start college(after a nice gap year to relax anyway), and my sister finishing up her last year of high school. So it would soon be a non issue for us.
"Yes, Patricia there's enough for you too." my little sister said with very much not fake exasperation in her voice.
I gave her a questioning look. After all, it was one thing to keep the peace. It was another thing entirely to feed the beast. My sister just shrugged though, and went back to preparing breakfast.
Breakfast was ready a few minutes later. Sarah and I doing our best to keep up polite conversation with Patricia until breakfast was over. Patricia didn't waste any time before sauntering off after she finished eating. Not even bothering to pick up her plate, just leaving it there on the table.
Sudden anger rose in me at the thought of Patricia making my little sister take care of her mess. Sarah started to clear the dishes, but I rushed to beat her to it. My little sister was a bit startled when I darted in front of her to grab the dishes, I must have let some of my anger show on my face. I didn't want my sister upset, and I really didn't know how to explain the sudden spike of anger to her, so I just smiled at her.
"You cooked, let me take care of the dishes." I said, giving her a kiss on the head as I headed into the kitchen with the offending dishes.
"Uh, thanks big brother." Sarah said after a moment. Clearly thinking about saying something else but deciding against it. Before heading off to do whatever adorable little sisters did when their brothers weren't around.
I did the dishes quickly. It wasn't much, just the plates and cups from the 3 of them. Sarah was really good about cleaning up her cooking dishes as she went, so all I needed to do was scrub down the frying pan that was already presoaked.
After finishing up, I headed back up to my room.
Check out the old laptop, or rub one out in memory if your little sisters glare-pout?
