How Do Things Play Out?

More Changes

Chapter 6 by dracone

"I'm thinking...these ones," said Fera as she headed for the chests on the left.

"Sounds good," said Evan as he headed for the chests on the right. The moment he opened the first chest would herald another new change, almost as subtle as what happened in that first room after solving the puzzle, but he didn't know it just yet. The first chest contained an amulet (probably a holy symbol), a chain shirt, and a wooden pendant shield. Evan noticed the shirt, which for most people is fairly heavy, felt a bit lighter than usual, it was at this moment he noticed his arm in the finishing phases of bulking up a bit. He set the first three items to the side then opened the next chest. The next chest had a claw-style war hammer, a set of traveler's clothes, and 5 basic javelins. The third chest had a backpack in far better condition, a mess kit, a 50-foot length of hemp rope, and a bedroll. The final chest had a day's worth of rations, a waterskin that looked like it was in better condition than the one Evan came in with, and a note that said something about "glory" that practically disintegrated when he tried picking it up to better read the name of the author.

Before he knew it, Evan and Fera were all dressed up with their kits. Fera was dressed up like a druid, she kind of looked like she could be something akin to a werewolf, now that Evan was able to get a better look at her without coming off as some sort of perv. As for the room itself, beyond the chests were 3 doors, each a different color (Red, Blue, Green) with something that seemed to be burned or carved into them. This was obviously some kind of puzzle. Evan wasn't the best at puzzles, but at least he managed to reason out the few he had encountered after entering the dungeon until now.

Getting close to the doors, Evan saw that each was burned with a different character or symbol. Evan recognized the one burned into the blue one as being a character in the Giant tongue, ironically the character was a shorthand in the language for Blue, the character was also part of one of the powerful runes he had seen in some places near one of the quarries when he had helped out there, but the symbol was also part of the character for Water as well. Fera came up next to him while he was inspecting the doors, she confirmed the one on the Green door was a Sylvan symbol, the character for "short plant" if Evan caught what she said right. That meant the last symbol probably wasn't going to be pleasant, maybe the character was from one of the demonic scripts, but with an absence of someone that was familiar with those languages, it couldn't quite be confirmed yet.

Now, The two just had to choose a door. Giants were known for their brutality, fey were often known for their potentially hazardous "pranks, " and the less said about demons and the like the better. So, which to choose.
