A godly surprise

You and the girls gather in the living room, the girls curious as to why you’ve called everyone together. Preferring it to be a surprise, you simply shrug when they ask, much to the exasperation of most. Taking a seat on the couch, you let everyone settle, with Maya and Anna on either side of you.

As if aware that everyone is gathered, Bast simply appears in the middle of the room, surprising everyone. Beside you, Maya grumbles. “Always with the dramatic entrance. I’m guessing this is why we’re all here?”

Bast smiles. “Allow me my dramatic entrance this one last time, Maya. Yes, I asked Josh to gather you all. As many of you know, my power is fading, and I intend to pass it on to Josh. What I haven’t explained is that I also intend to pass it to all of you.”

There’s a general round of surprise from everyone in the room. Kali looks at Bast, eyes wide. “You mean…all of us are what, becoming gods, like Sadie and Ruka?”

Bast nods. “There’s a need for it. Josh cannot be the only power, though he will be receiving the most. All of you will need to continue being his conscience, as you have before. We cannot have another demon lord.”

Elys smiles. “I don’t think that will happen. But why usss?”

Bast smiles back. “Because not only are all of you good people, and not only have all of you worked towards the peace that this land is headed towards, but your love for each other makes you stronger together. I could spread the power over many people all over, but one mistake and you have a war between the gods.”

Rachel nods. “And you know we won’t turn on each other.”

Bast chuckles. “I know it’s extremely unlikely. The future is always uncertain, but I believe that this family has bonded in an indelible way.”

Yura looks up at him curiously. “How does this work? What do we do as a deity?”

Sadie speaks up. “Oooh, I know some of this! I can hear people calling for aid in my mind sometimes! It’s cool, I can do things like change the weather or give them an updraft!”

Bast laughs. “Yes, you hear the calls from those who desire your aid. Anything within your domain, in Sadie’s case, the creatures of the air, will be heard by you. And you will be able to render aid, without much effort, though larger boons will take more energy.”

Uzume chuckles. “Sounds exhausting, having people call out to you constantly.”

Bast shakes his head. “Most things happen without your input. Only more important calls will reach you.”

Clarissa looks a bit worried. “How will this affect us physically? Some of us are…expecting.”

He gives her a comforting smile. “You will remain as you are physically, but you will no longer age. You become functionally immortal, though you can still be hurt or killed.”

He looks around. “Any other questions before we begin?”

No one seems to have any, and he smiles.
