Pretty good

Well, coach was not wrong. This giant slab of black muscle actually had some skills and the brain to make the most of them.

The training drills had been a close affair. Arially he had proven to be superior despite my frankly unnatural ability to jump high for my height. But agility was on my side as my lithe frame allowed me to easily and quickly weave in and out of the cones and defenders with the ball pratcically glued to my feet. The speed tests were interesting, 5 races and each on ending in a dead heat between us. And of course most importantly shooting I had edged as I calmly slotted every shot past the keeper whereas mh opposition had focussed on applying his power and blasting the ball into the goal. This was his downfall as his power resulted in a lack of accuracy and a shot aimed straight at Ben our slightly overweight goalkeeper.

The final trial was an 11 aside match with mixed teams and as you can probably guess we were on opposite sides. It had become evident to all that myself and my competitor were the best players on the pitch, sparring with eachother. I score. He scores. I rinse the defence. He powers through.

It all came down to the final minute with the scores level at 5 all. Both of us with 2 goals and 3 assists and chasing our hatricks.

There I was through on goal, megs a defender and then then one on one with the keeper as I pull my leg back and prepare to shoot when CRACK!

My feet a wiped out from beneath me as I fly through the air and fall to the ground with a thud. I lay in the mud writhing in agony fully aware that my leg is broken whilst the my teammates and coach berate the clumsy fucker that had caused my pain.

One of the the trialists, a slow and clumsy fullback had dived in as a last gasp attempt to impress coach and obtain a place in the team. A reckless decision that was sending me to the hospital and ending my season before it had began.
