Halo's co-protagonist alongside John-117, Cortana is an incredibly smart AI created by flash-cloning Dr. Halsey's brain. When she's inserted into John's Mjolnir Mk. VI armor for the first time, she serves as a Mission Control of sorts while providing assistance to John. However, they both become fire-forged friends through the course of the series thanks to significant character development, to the point they both would fight to the **** for the other.

Cortana has a witty and playful personality and a small sense of cryptic humor laced with some sarcasm. She has neither arrogance nor false modesty about her immense capabilities, and her statements about her abilities have an objective perspective that human beings typically cannot achieve. She does get bored often and easily though, accounting for the quicker thought process of smart AIs like her.

Since Cortana isn't supposed to have a physical body due to being an AI, we at VGR decided to give her a body (Cortana's appearance in Halo 4). She will be programmed to acknowledge such a fact and believe it's a sign she has achieved the theoretical fourth and final stage of rampancy, metastability, in which an AI can be considered fully "human". Her body is that of a naked female human, roughly in her early twenties, with purplish/bluish skin, shoulder length purplish/bluish hair cut shorter at the back, and blue symbols scrolling down her body. Her Halo 4 appearance has darker, more opaque and realistic hair and a considerably more curvaceous figure.
