Aloy is the protagonist and player character of the game. Born to the Nora tribe, she was exiled as an infant for reasons unknown to her and raised by Rost, another outcast. As a child, she fell into a lab from the Metal World and found an earpiece called a Focus, which allows her to scan the world around her.

She begins her adventure by participating in the Proving in order to become a Brave and find out what happened to her mother. However, she is quickly swept up in the conflict against the Eclipse and the rogue AI HADES, and sets off on a long journey to learn about the circumstances of the Derangement and the disappearance of the Old Ones. Ultimately, she will discover the nature of her origins and her critical role in saving the world.

Aloy is a highly determined woman, even at her young age of 18, and nothing will be able to stand in her way when she sets her mind to something. She has a strong curiosity for the mysteries of their world and the Old Ones and unlike the Nora, she sees sees technology as a practical and unique tool to aid her in her quest - but this has lead to her also becoming more skeptical about tribal lore and beliefs, knowing that there were logical explanations for the questions they tried to explain through mysticism. Her benevolence is her greatest strength and has garnered the respect and trust of many who have interacted with her, but she can be sarcastic when dealing with people she dislikes and she tends to be blunt and direct. She's also quite sassy when she wants.

Aloy stands at 5'6.3" (169 cm) and her most striking feature is the bright and vivant red hair that she inherited from her genetic mother, Elisabet Sobek, but her hazel eyes are also quite beautiful and the smattering of freckles she has on her face gives her a charming look. Though Aloy isn't the most curvaceous of women, she more than makes up for it with a strong and toned body - the result of constantly harvesting and fighting the dangerous machines of her world.
