Preparations

Once inside of the room, there was very little time before Marius got to work on getting his room set. He had put his things off to the side and began work on making various types of runes. Using a piece of lead that could easily be overlooked, hidden, and dealt away with later, he began writing the runes all over the room.

First, he wrote runes of silence on all the walls, the floor, and the ceiling. No noises at all would be escaping this room so no conversations he had or fights he had up here would be heard anywhere else. A bomb could go off in this room, and so long as the structure held up or none of the runes were destroyed, none of the other people in the inn would be the wiser of it.

Then, he had set up alarm runes in front of the door and any windows, so that way if anyone tried to break into the room while he slept, the runes would go off. He would set them before going to bed and leaving, and they would set off a loud noise to wake him up. They would also break themselves upon activation so that way, even if he was gone, he knew someone was here.

After that, he put in magic nullification runes. That way no magic of any kind, except for divine magic, would be able to work in this room once someone enters. It would even be significantly harder for someone to scry into the room or teleport in. Not impossible, but very difficult.

That was all he needed for now, just for a good night's sleep. In the morning, he would head over to this lord's estate and begin asking questions about this supposed champion of Jaris that got his mistress all up in arms about. He wondered what she would be like, this Sin-Tax-Taker paladin.

Thinking about how interesting this job would be, he stripped of his equipment and got into the bed. He began meditating and then slipped into a sleep. This assignment would be very busy.
