Power and Confidence
Bzzzzzzzzt
I waited at the clinic door – my body was shaking as I lowered my hand from the red-buttoned intercom. I was really going to do this. Taking this kind of risk was not something that I would have contemplated in the past.
Click
Taking a deep, labored breath – I pressed the door forward into the “operating room”. However, although the room was signed as such, that wasn’t the purpose of the room today. At the center of the room a large rectangular table spread out beneath the operating lamp. Across the table, three shadowy figures proctored my entrance silently, most of their details shadowed outside the sanctuary of the light. My eyes struggled against the darkness, seeking the outlines of their form. A man to the left, a woman to the right, and a tall imposing figure crossed his arms onto the table – his hand raising to rub at his chin.
“Scary right?” The figure said, leaning back.
“Huh?” I responded, I heard the question and agreed, but didn’t want to show my cards to the seemingly friendly voice.
“Haha. The lights?” The figure stood up, straightened out, and began walking slowly behind the spectacled lady to his right.
“These rooms are pretty high-tech. The best. However, none of us are surgeons here... and we couldn’t figure out the panels for the ceiling lights.”
Click. Clack. Click. Clack.
“Fortunately, the company that specializes in these operating lights seems to still prefer analogue switches… so that’s where we are now.”
The light focused on a chair, clearly purposed for me. The man calmly walked to the chair, the darkness traveling up his shoes, his pants – until slowly it passed away from his face. My eyes focused to his finer details, his hand firmly resting on the chair – a chill spreading across my skin. A tall, confident man stood suited, fit, and well-dressed – exuding an aura of class. A class beyond my wildest dream, an undoubtedly priceless watch slipping out from underneath his cuffs and glittering in the rays of light.
“David… Uzaki?”
He smiled.
David Uzaki? ParaTech’s founder and CEO. I’ve known of this man for years, his press statements, his history. An immigrant businessman from Chile – my role model – now my savior.
David’s hand moved to the back of his neck, grabbing at it as his head tilted and his shoulders shrugged – a smug smile pulling up at the corner of his lips.
“Yeah, it’s me. I was scheduled to leave much earlier, but Dr. Avari told me you were quite a fan of my work.”
David chuckled quietly, “I’m humbled. He told me it would make your day, and it always makes my day to meet fellow biotech enthusiasts.”
He relaxed, his hand reaching out to me in the distance.
I could barely process anything and my feet began moving towards him – my eyes locked onto his hand – as if it had put me into a trance. My hand fell into his in a loose fashion before his grip secured it firmly and shook sternly into my shoulder.
He looked straight into my eyes with a kind and confident expression before his eyes widened with realization.
“Oh. So, so sorry. I’m being rude leaving out my associates here today. Today, you’re having this meeting primary with these two fine, outstanding experts – Dr. Tom Hamilton and Dr. Samantha Childs.”
Before I could wave, David had taken my shoulder and began to walk me around the table until I came to a scraggly, middle-aged man.
Tom pushed his glasses up onto his nose and stood, smiling as his hand came forward and quickly shook my hand.
“Thank you so much for participating in our trial. I will work as hard as I can to make sure your treatment is a success, Tyler.”
“Thank you, doctor.” I smiled nervously and nodded my head.
David turned me towards an unethused Dr. Childs.
He continued, “Now, if you read the initial treatment plan, you may have noticed that your other doctor was going to be a Dr. Damien Smith. Unfortunately, something came up and so Dr. Samantha Childs offered to step in and handle your group of participants, as well. Please be extra appreciative with Dr. Samantha.”
Samantha looked me in the eyes through her red-rimmed glasses. She was an absolute black-haired, bombshell of a doctor - and she was not hiding it. Although she wore the uniform of her craft, her professional expertise clearly visible in her eyes and mannerisms - her clothes underneath hinted at her confidence in other areas. Heat began building at my face, I knew she could tell, I was blushing – indecent thoughts running through my head.
Slowly she leaned forward out of her seat, my eyes falling down her blouse and soaking in the fleshly mounds dangling from her thin chest.
I gasped, and a slight chuckle slipped from Samantha’s lips as she straightened out towards me.
Her eyes locked onto mine as her shining, cherry-red lips moved past my face and into my ear.
“I really will enjoy treating you~ Tyler~,” she said, before shaking my hand and withdrawing to her seat.
In the background, I could see a puzzled David – staring for a while before closing his eyes, breathing in, and moving on.
“Anyway, let’s talk about your treatment, I’m sure you’re excited to learn more.”
