"When you say after conception..." Lois stared Waller hard in the eyes. Even though she was naked and laying on the table, legs in forceps and vagina spread open by that mechanical device, it was Waller's gaze that made her feel the most exposed. The reporter would hate to play poker with this woman—but she needed to know what was going on, what happened to the missing women.

Had they all volunteered to be...bred?

"The procedure is painless." Waller spoke evenly, bluntly. No hinting or cajoling. "Some of the subjects even enjoy it."

Lois raised an eyebrow. "Are we talking artificial insemination or..."

"You will be assigned a partner." Wallace was blunt.

"I...see. And there are...other women in this program?"

"We currently have four other recruits for our current class going through in-processing. You will be joining them."

Well, there are the four missing women.

"I have commitments...a job, rent..." The reporter tried.

"In addition to your augmentations, you will be issued a cover story. You're about to do a stint with the 'Peace Corps' Joanne—and will receive monetary compensation equivalent for government service. However, you will be required to live on-site for the duration, to better monitor your well-being and that of the fetus."

Sounds more like the Piece-of-Ass Corps. Lois didn't say aloud. She licked her lips, and felt goosebumps raise on her skin.

"And what if I...refuse, or change my mind?"

Waller looked Lois dead in the eye as she answered.
