Panic!
“What the fuck! What the fuck!” Amy suddenly burst to life, her jokey attitude giving way to panic when it became obvious that James hadn’t been joking. “No, I didn’t just do that… I didn’t just do that!”
He was in a crumpled heap, still and silent. Unmoving, unthinking, with all the fight punched out of him. Not that he’d put up any kind of fight to begin with…
“Uhhh, is he knocked out?” Stella asked from a bench at the side of the ring, looking up from the light of the phone she held in her lap. “You only hit him a couple times.”
“I know!” Amy replied, desperation on her face. “Shitshitshit, why the hell did that happen? He said he used to be a local champion, how did I knock him out so fast!?”
Down at her feet, James hadn’t moved at all. He was just lying facedown in the boxing ring, sound asleep as these two cute girls panicked over his crumpled body. Or at least, as AMY panicked over his crumpled body. At ringside, Stella was taking a different approach.
“Dammmmnnn… He kinda sucks,” Stella commented, staring at James’ pathetic heap. “Serious loser energy.”
She snapped a picture on her phone, with the flash on. It was quite the scene. James on the floor of the ring, **** as fuck, with Stella’s worried sister gloved up and standing above him.
“Don’t take a picture!!” Amy yelped.
Stella snorted.
“Don’t take a picture of what? Of the guy who thought he was tough shit that just got put to sleep in like, a minute?”
“Maybe he just… I don’t know, maybe he wasn’t ready!” Amy tried, hopelessly.
“Sis, stop defending him. He’s out for the count, it doesn’t make a difference if we pretend like he’s actually really cool underneath all that loser exterior.” Stella scoffed. “That was the easiest fight in the world, and sleeping beauty’s feelings won’t be hurt by saying so. He can’t hear us.”
Amy sighed. She knew her sister was right. But all of this was just so… So crazy! She had never knocked anyone out before, let alone so fast. And she normally only boxed other girls, back when she used to train! Doing something like this to a man, to a BOXING CHAMPION, was unbelievable. Was she really that good?
Amy’s mind raced, trying to figure out how this could have happened. She thought back to before the start of the match. James had said he had to tell her something before they started… Was this it? Was he going to tell her that he was easy to knock out? It would explain why he only “used to” be a local champ, but… What the hell!? She’d never heard of someone going out so fast, especially not a young guy like James!
There was always a chance that she was just the first. Maybe, after a long and successful boxing career, James had been left only one good punch away from developing a glass jaw, and Amy had just been the one to hit his button. But none of these answers felt likely, at least not without James telling her she was right…
Amy had no idea what was going on. Knocking a guy out so decisively, so completely, so EASILY… It wasn’t something that could be explained by just any excuse. Stella seemed to have her mind made up that James was just a wimpy loser, simple as that, but Amy had hopes that her sister was wrong… That couldn’t be it, right?
