Chapter 7 by alanthehammer alanthehammer

Did the previous actions make Katie worry?

One more day to go

It was now the eve of Katie's party. Everything was in place and all the food and ingredients that Katie had acquired were now in place. Knowing that the restaurant would be closed the day of her party meant that Katie could now do the final preparations in the morning before she opened her doors for all the guests. Faint traces of the face paint could be see on her skin. But the light inside the restaurant would make it difficult to notice. Katie only had one more shift before she could rest for the night and plan on throwing the best party she knew how. In the afternoon, Katie decided she needed to have something to eat to last her through her shift. Undecided on what to eat, she went to the balcony to think for a short time. Below her, she saw a cat torturing a rat. The rat gave up a good fight before being overpowered and killed. Katie smiled and never winced once as the rat could be heard screeching as the cat clenched it jaws around it's throat. "Good cat." She quietly said to herself. Somehow though the cat heard her and looked in her direction. "How could it hear me? I'm at least twenty feet away." The cat sat down and continued to look on her direction. Soon, it wandered off without the dead rat and disappeared. "Well at least I know someone's keeping the area vermin free. The council really need to try and get something done around here."

Katie returned to her living room and studied the spell book some more. Now that she had fully read the book, she realised that most of the potions and spells would benefit the individual that cast them, but some would help others. Spells that would bring someone peace after the **** of loved one. One that would grant good fortune to those that deserve it. Plus a few more. "Well there's a lot of people that need help in some way or another." Katie wasn't sure whether to believe if would work or not but proceeded anyway. Taking a green candle, some old pennies she had laying around. Katie then pointed the wand at them.

"Let fortuned winds blow my way."

"All that's evil please allay."

"All that's good and all that's bane"

"Give in turn, but for my gain."

Katie meditated on the rune she had place on the table in front of her to close the spell. Once done, she took the pennies, closed them in an envelope and put them through the letterbox of one of the other flats in the complex she lived in. "See what happens of anything." Knowing she used a spell to try and help someone made her feel really good about herself. When she got back to her flat she noticed the time. "Shit. I'm gonna be late if I don't hurry."

Katie changed in record time and got to work without any further hold ups. Shannon was waiting out the front for her. "Katie. I tried to call you earlier."

"Did you. I didn't hear my phone go off. How long ago did you try to call?" Taking a look at her phone to see the missed call.

"About an hour or so ago. I got my car back and was gonna ask you if you wanted a lift in."

"Sorry Shannon. I was paying one of my neighbours a visit. Not sure if it was their cat or not but they had dead rat laying on their grounds." Katie wasn't about to tell anyone she tried to cast a spell of good fortune.

"Eww. Rats. Horrible bloody things."

"Well the wild ones are. Pet ones aren't so bad. Doesn't mean I'll have one though. Can't bear to see an animal caged up." They both headed in to start their shift. Things passed by smoothly to start with. Until a customer started to complain that his food wasn't cooked properly. It was one of Katie's tables. "Is everything ok sir?"

The man looked up at her "No miss. It is not. My steak isn't cooked to my liking. I asked for it to be medium to well done. Instead I get one that is rare."

"I'm so sorry sir." Katie replied. "Would you like me to take it back to be cooked properly?"

"I'd like to kick the chef up the arse."

Katie got that awkward feeling, but tried to keep upbeat. "You want me to hold him down for you." The joke didn't go as planned.

"Are you trying to wind me up miss?" The man visibly not amused.

"No, Not at all. Just trying to make this unfortunate incident less painful with a bit of humour. I meant no offence."

"I'm not offended. I just don't think you're taking my complaint seriously." Katie decided that it would be best to take the plate back into the kitchen and have the meal recooked to the mans preference. As she lifted the plate of the table though, he grabbed her hand.

"What do you think you are doing?"

"I'm taking the plate back to chef to express your displeasure. Then I was going to speak to the manager about compensating you for it."

"Put the plate back down. I'll eat it as it is. How arrogant of you to think that action would satisfy me. Maybe my friend was right about this place. Come to think of it. You might be the same dumb blonde that knocked his drink all over him."

Now Katie saw the picture. This man was trying it on to get a reaction out of her in order to get others to have a dimmer view of the restaurant. This angered Katie. Placing the plate back down and yanking her hand away from him. The man locked shocked at the show of strength that Katie displayed against his grip. when he turned to face her, he noticed that her eyes had turned into an endless pit of black. Silently saying to himself. "What the fuck." Katie muttered a language she didn't understand and placed her finger on his head. Without a word. He got up, walked out the door and off the premises. Once he reached the road, he jumped in front of an oncoming truck and died instantly. Katie was unaware of what she had done. Along with her spell though, all trace of his being in the restaurant had been removed from everyone's memory. He just became another statistic in the numbers of unexplained suicides. Katie eyes had returned to normal and she carried on with her shift as though nothing had happened. No one inside the building could give the police any information. The witch inside Katie had covered the tracks all too well. When Katie got home, she was drained and went straight to sleep. The last sleep before her party.

How does the party go?
