On Set
As the show grew nearer, Jennifer began to be called Gretchen on the street. With her hair, and her skin growing paler every day, people were recognizing her as the character more and more. Jennifer hated it. She refused to respond to the name. Her training with Maryanne continued, along with new additions. Soon a billboard appeared for the show. 'Gretchen's World' It said, next to a photo of her face. She was wearing her glasses, her now wavy hair unkempt. In the photo she looked nervous, as she'd been directed, wide eyed and biting her lower lip. Jennifer started seeing the billboard everywhere. There was no going back now, she realized. She was making this show no matter what. She regretted her quick commitment.
Finally, filming began. After all the buildup Jennifer was actually relieved. She arrived at the studio. Entering she found a roar of activity. There was multiple sets which she recognized from what she new of the script. There were exteriors of the fictional college Gretchen attended. There were classrooms, and what must have been her dorm room. People were running about, voices calling out over megaphones. Jennifer had to admit that this was the most production she'd ever seen for a T.V. Show.
“Oh my god, is that Jennifer?” A voice called. Jennifer froze. She knew that voice, though she didn't want to admit it. Slowly she turned. There she was. Michelle Valez, a.k.a. Briana. The titular Briana from their previous show, 'Briana's World'. It had been years, but she looked just like how Jennifer remembered. A towering blonde, she was deeply bronzed, muscular while still being lean. She had big shoulders, a tiny waist, and muscular limbs. But what everyone always noticed was her chest. It was what made her such an icon. Off her broad ribcage her breasts looked like bowling balls. Perfectly round, sticking straight up and off her. She f!it her jock cheerleader role perfectly.
“Jennifer! Great to see you!” Brianna said, giving her a deep and unwelcome hug. After several long seconds she broke away, holding Jennifer at arm's length.
“Wow Jennifer, you look... different.” Brianna said. Jennifer noticed Brianna's eye's focusing on her chest. As always, when someone from her old life noticed her chest, Jennifer got self conscious. She pulled free of Brianna's grip and shied away, crossing her arms over herself.
“Uh, thanks.” Jennifer replied coolly, crossing her arms over her chest. Did Brianna know? “You look... well... the same.” Jennifer said calmly. In response Brianna looked down over herself, arms extended. Then she looked back at Jennifer with a knowing grin.
“I know, right? I had to get myself right back to where I was when the old show was on.” Brianna explained. “It took a lot of work with Maryanne, the show's consultant.
Jennifer breathed a sigh of relief. At least she wasn't the only one Maryanne had pushed back into her youthful roll! Maybe her and Brianna could bond over this.
“Anyways, I have to prepare for the shoot.” Brianna explained. “I'll see you on set!” She said, walking away with a wink. Jennifer waved uncomfortably, then headed to her dressing room.
In her dressing room (her first time as the star, Jennifer beamed) Jennifer found a full pilot script waiting for her. She began to read it. About what she expected. The character of Gretchen arriving at college, struggling to learn the ropes. Comic situation ensues. Jennifer tossed it aside quickly. She could tell from the premise what she was in for, and Maryanne had coached her on the important scenes. Soon makeup arrived, preparing her. Then, after she'd assumed her costume, shooting began.
Most people thought filming a movie was the 'fun' part of making movies. Jennifer had assumed that as a youth. In fact, it was the dullest part. Take after take, walking to your mark then retreading your steps a second later. It went on forever. In five hours they had filmed past where Jennifer had read in the script.
So far, it was all going great. Maryanne was on set speaking to the director. She kept passing on to Jennifer compliments on her performance. Jennifer was used to be Gretchen. I fact the role fit like an old glove. After yet another long shot, the director called cut and they went to break.
“Alright everyone, scene 24, let's all get ready.” The director, a young adult male announced. He began speaking to the cameraman, ignoring everyone else. Jennifer hesitated. She didn't know what was next. She was actually relieved when Maryanne walked up.
“Alright Jennifer, let's get set for the next shoot.” Maryanne explained. Jennifer felt she had to explain her status.
“Maryanne, this is more then I thought we'd shoot in a day.” Jennifer explained sheepishly. “I haven't read this far in the script.”
“You haven't?!” Maryanne said in shock. Then she shook her head. “Well, no worries. This is the scene where you find out Brianna goes to the same college as you. It's her first shot in the show.”
Great, Jennifer thought. She had to share a scene with that girl.
“Okay, fine. What's the setting?”
“Well, there's no time to review the script.” Maryanne said disapprovingly. Jennifer felt a bit sheepish because she was under prepared. “Well, the scene starts with you coming out of the showers.” Maryanne explained. “You walk out and bump into Brianna and her friends. There's some banter you should read over. For now go change into a towel, makeup will moisten your hair.”
