Chapter 17

Does Selina accept the team-up?
Of course she does.
"Let's kick some ass, partner." Selina said eagerly. Nightwing released his hold on her, and the two adventurers made for the edge of the roof.
"Ladies first." Nightwing said. Selina nodded, then pounced.
-
"Happy new years, boys!" Selina cried, announcing herself to the criminals by landing atop the nearest mook and taking him out with a powerful blow to the temple.
"The bad news is, you're gonna be spending new year's day in lock-up!" Nightwing added, arriving on the scene next to Selina, throwing one criminal, then moving onto another with a powerful right hook.
Some of the thugs further away from them, closer to the building, were armed. Unfortunately, it would do them little good against one of the Dark Knight's most formidable pupils.
Springboarding off the nearest crook, Nightwing backflipped, buying himself just enough breathing room to draw his escrima sticks and flip them over, revealing hidden buttons on the underside, which he depressed.
The two assault rifles misfired, practically exploding, seconds before they would've ventilated Selina and the younger crimefighter.
The tech Nightwing had just deployed reminded Selina of a sort of firearm disruptor she'd seen Bruce use before. Clearly, the apprentice had incorporated a little of the master's tech into his repertoire.
"Gotta get me one of those!" Selina purred, before drawing her whip, stunning an enemy combatant, and taking him out of the fight with a merciless flurry of claw strikes.
"What can I say, they do make life a little easier." Nightwing shot back, before hurling one of his sticks point-blank into a thug's forehead just as soon as he began a charge.
Selina and Nightwing fought in unison, nearly as flawlessly as they had each done with Batman, mopping up the dozen or so Black Mask remnants before they had even broken a sweat.
"Not half bad, kitty." Nightwing said, sauntering over to an unconscious mook and recovering his sticks. "No wonder Bruce used to consider asking you to come on in a more... official capacity."
"D'you mean in a Batsuit or wearing a ring? Not sure which one makes me shudder more." Selina said playfully.
"Take a look through the loot, Cat." Nightwing told her. "You've got five minutes, then I'm calling the cops."
"Sir, yes, sir!" Selina said mockingly, before making for the back of the truck.
Inside, there were the usual crates of weapons and contraband. Selina ignored these. She may have been a thief, but she wasn't an arms dealer. Instead, she singled out a small leather bag full of battered, rubberbanded bills, easily over a hundred large, and swung it over her shoulder.
"Get what you were after?" Nightwing asked, joining Selina inside.
"Sure did." the thief said.
"You know, if you ever want to make this a regular thing..." Nightwing offered, as he began going through the weapon crates, methodically searching them, then tagging them with explosive gel.
"Sorry Nightwing, I'm not the going steady type." Selina smirked, leaning back against the truck cabin, watching the vigilante work.
"Maybe you should be. You could really make a difference, save a lot of lives-" Nightwing said.
"I got the same schtick from Renee Montoya not two hours ago." Selina told him.
"Montoya knows what she's talking about." Nightwing responded.
"C'mon kid, even Batman gave up trying to convert me eventually." Selina said.
"I'm... not Batman." Nightwing told her.
"Yeah, the lack of point ears kinda gave it away."
Suddenly, Nightwing became silent. Opening one of the final crates, he found a small, palm-sized package. Extracting it, he set it aside, then finished marking the crates.
"Well, I'd better be off. Lot of night time left, lot've perfectly legitimate business to conduct." Selina told Nightwing, a twinkle in her eye.
The two of them left the truck, and moved a fair distance away from it.
"You know Cat, we could keep this going." Nightwing offered.
"What, you got another crew of robbers you want help taking down?" Selina asked. "It's gonna be a pass, sorry."
"That... wasn't exactly what I had in mind." Nightwing told her, hitting the detonator key on his gauntlet computer.
The explosive gel inside the truck combusted, reducing the high-powered machine guns and other death-dealing equipment within to scrap. The explosion was controlled enough that none of the unconcious crooks nearby were any the worse for wear.
Looking Nightwing in his domino-masked eye, Selina understood him.
Does she agree?
