Chapter 9 by Polar_Lime Polar_Lime

And Ava?

Not much better...

In the command room, Ava and her female foe were at a stalemate. While the long limbs and staff of Ava's enemy did give her a significant advantage, the GDF agent was able to match it with speed and her handiwork with the blades. Both were able to get a few shots in however. One of Ava's ribs hurt something fierce while a green liquid resembling blood could be seen on the tall female's blue skinned arms. Each warrior was panting, still in fighting poses, waiting for the other to make the next move.

That honor belonged to the slender blue skinned enemy, who twirled the staff and went for a powerful lunge. Ava slide on the ground feet first, able to slice into the flesh the other's upper leg. The alien gave a quick yelp from the pain, but Ava wanted to finally finish this off. She leaped up and swung again, hitting with both blades her opponent's back, just under where the silver and white armor stopped. Another cry came from the blue lips of the female creature. She frantically swung her staff back behind her, hitting nothing but air as Ava rolled forward. Ava stood up and making the form of an X, rested each blade on the side of her downed foe's neck.

"Phew! You really made me work for that," Ava announced panting. The blue face of the defeated female slowly turned as her green eyes met Ava's blue ones. "Any reason why I shouldn't chop your head off right now?" inquired Ava. She was about to execute her attacker and deliver a cheesy catchphrase when the alien spoke.

"You fight very well human, much better than your brethren on this vessel," the creature spoke, speaking almost perfect english.

"Thanks, you really had me going there for a bit," replied Ava, slightly caught of guard that they could understand each other. "Also didn't realize you spoke english. Not that it matters though as I got a job to do, nothing personal," she finished, poised to deliver the final blow.

"Wait human!" pleaded the alien. "Before you give me a truly honorable death, I just want to offer my praise. I am Yari. Remember my name among your defeated. It gives me pride to have been defeated by such a mighty and beautiful warrior." As much as she could without cutting her own neck on Ava's blades, Yari bowed her head.

Ava was taken aback. Not only did Yari appear to truly believe this as honorable, but Ava didn't think her looks would translate intergalactically. She relaxed her hands a bit as she second guessed killing off Yari so quickly.

"However human," Yari continued, slowly raising her head back up, "there is one thing that did not impress me."

"And that is?" Ava cautiously asked, her arms once again becoming tense.

"You hesitated!" As Yari replied, Ava saw the blue stone at the top of the staff flash. Next thing she knew, a giant blue beam was hitting her in the chest and she was launched into the air. This lasted only a moment as her back slammed into one of the command deck walls. She crumpled to the ground as her limp body still didn't have time to react to what just happened. As she landed facedown, she immediately realized her spacesuit no longer no longer had a front as her bare chest met the cold floor. She could taste blood in her mouth as she slowly began to get her bearings.

"Hope Spark is doing better than I am," she quietly asked herself.

Was she?
