Not entirely.

The debugger smiled. Another job well done. He honestly didn't know how people got themselves tied up in these knots but he enjoyed his work of untying them. He looked over his list of glitches and errors. He was about to pull up an old man in Buffalo whose material integrity had failed, resulting in his ears falling off, when a red light appeared in the corner of his slate.

He tapped the alert and was chagrined to see Daphne again. The fix had gone so well! What could possibly be wrong? He pulled up the video feed and grimaced. She was standing attentively on a street corner, listening to a man on a soapbox describe his religious views. He checked the feed - she'd been standing there for three hours. She looked cold, hungry, and tired, but she dutifully kept listening to him. This wouldn't do at all.

With another tap on the slate, he was back in the debugging chamber and she was sitting on the couch, looking curiously at him. Another tap and her memory of the previous debugging session flooded back. She smiled. "Guess your tweak could use another tweak, huh?"

The debugger was slightly annoyed. He tapped the slate and her smile faded. "Enough sarcasm." She nodded obligingly.

"Now, you were listening to that man on the street corner. What was he saying?"

She started reciting. "He said, 'I am the Son of God, risen to bring judgment upon all nations. Heed my call, you sinners, and you may yet be saved from perdition! I look around me, and what do I see? Harlots! Drunkards! Fornicators and masturbators! If my words offend, that is merely because-'"

He cut her off. "Did you believe any of what he said?" She confirmed that she did not. "Why not?"

"He was clearly a crazy street person. I've never given any credence to the ramblings of people like him before, so why start now?"

"Then why listen to him?"

A small shudder went through Daphne and she felt a slight click in her mind. "It's the polite thing to do. I'd hate for him to feel like I'm ignoring him or not listening to him."

The debugger sighed. Clearly this error was going to need more than the new coat of paint he slapped on it. He flipped back to earless man in Buffalo and routed him to a different debugger. Time to get to work.
