Chapter 5

Enough Proof?
Not Yet
Alex shivered, a combination of both the coldness across his skin and the uneasy feeling crawling in his gut.
“That could’ve been a coincidence.” Alex mumbled to himself, flicking the pencil around his fingers as he tried to come up with something that would most definitely prove the Rulebook’s viability.
So long he was siting there at his desk, thinking up a way to prove the book wrong, that he entirely missed his mother call him down for lunch. He even missed the knocking coming from his door.
He didn’t miss the door being opened and a loud voice calling out to him. “Hey, bro, you good in here?”
Alex yelped, dropping the pencil and almost falling off his chair in his attempt to turn and view the invader of his room. Then the voice processed through his mind, and he recognized the voice. “Casey? What’re you doing in here?”
Alex’s sister huffed, crossing her arms under her prodigious bust, her thin black tank top doing nothing to hide how she wasn’t wearing a bra. “I’m here cause you weren’t coming down when Mom called us down. Five minutes ago.” She stepped further into the room, a suspicious glare on her face. “What’re you doing in here that you’d miss that?”
As Alex tried to come up with an excuse, his sister caught sight of the book on his desk. Humming curiously, she moved and scooped up the book from right over Alex’s head. She read the opening prompt on the book’s inner cover, ignoring her brother’s half-hearted complaints.
Her eyes widened as she read, understanding lighting up in her eyes. Followed closely by a wicked gleam.
Snatching the pencil on her brother’s desk, Casey quickly wrote out something in the Rulebook. Her brother moved to grab the book, but his sister just moved out of the way.
With a flourish, she finished writing in the book. Snapping it closed, she smirked at her brother, who was almost running at her. “Freeze.”
Alex froze in place, his eyes widening.
Casey’s own eyes gleamed at the result of her work. “You know, I get why you didn’t come down if this is what you were fiddling with.” She waved the Rulebook for emphasis. Alex tried to protest, but his mouth wouldn’t move.
Chuckling, his sister opened the book and presented it to Alex’s frozen eyes. “Oh, I wouldn’t try to get out of this, dear brother.”
New Rule: Alex Aphros will Completely Obey the Words and Will of his sister, Casey Aphros.
Alex had only one thought upon reading the page.
‘Aw, shit.’
