The idea that some random app could control his mom—his *mom*, of all people—seemed too crazy to believe. But the information on the screen was so specific, so detailed, that it was hard to dismiss entirely.

“Alright, let’s see if this thing is for real,” Jake muttered to himself, shaking his head at how ridiculous it all felt. He hesitated for a moment, then began typing into the text field:

He hit enter, watching the screen intently. For a moment, nothing happened, and Jake felt a mix of relief and disappointment. But then, an error message flashed across the screen in bold red text:

Jake blinked, confused. “Corruption? What the hell does that mean?” he mumbled, frowning at the screen. So, his mom had resisted whatever the app was trying to do. He wasn’t sure whether to be relieved or frustrated.
