Chapter 7

Who was it?

No one

Rebecca scowled as she saw that no one was outside her door. She pinched the bridge of her nose as she closed her eyes, letting out a groan of annoyance. Of course the thing that got her out of the tub was some punk kid playing ding-dong-ditch.

*Thunk*

*Click*

Rebecca's eyes widened in shock. Those two noises were the last thing she wanted to hear. Looking over her shoulder, Rebecca saw that her door had closed on her. Letting out a low growl, the officer turned the knob. Just as she expected, it was locked. She sighed in exasperation. So much for a relaxing evening.

"Okay, Chambers," Rebecca said to herself, leaning against the door, "calm down. You're not the first person to have locked herself out of her apartment in a bath towel, and you won't certainly be the last. Just go down to the lobby, ask Terry for the spare key, get back in, and problem solved. Then you can look back on this one day and laugh."

Rebecca briefly nodded as she began to walk forward... Only to come to a complete stop when she felt a tug on her towel, her eyes widening in fear as her cheeks turned a light pink. Her blood ran cold.

"Oh no..." She muttered softly as she looked over her shoulder once again, praying that her hunch was incorrect. Unfortunately, her hunch was proven correct when she saw the corner of her towel lodged in the door. She briefly tugged at it for a bit, but it wouldn't budge.

"Ugh!" Rebecca groaned as she covered her face, "This cannot be happening right now!"

Rebecca leaned against the door again and closed her eyes. Now starting to feel a bit cold, she thought about how she was going to do this.

The first option that popped into her head was that she ditched the towel and carefully make her way down to the lobby. Fortunately, she lived here long enough to know that the halls were empty around this time of night, so she only had to worry about Terry the door man seeing her. She knew the irony that, as a police officer, she would be breaking the law by streaking down to the lobby, but she also knew that she wasn't doing it willingly. She also knew that Terry was more likely to laugh at her predicament then call the police. It didn't make this option any less humiliating, though.

Option two was that she simply knocked on one of her neighbors doors and asked them to go down for her. And while she still didn't know any of her neighbors, once she explained her situation, she was sure that they would help her. The only drawback she saw was that, in order to reach the doors, she would still have to abandon her towel and then wrap herself back up in it before they answered. And they were sure to get an eye full if she wasn't quick enough.

Both options were humiliating, but she couldn't just stand out in the hall all night. She closed her eyes again as she weighed her options.

Which does Rebecca pick?
