Sue tried to squeeze free, her body writhing and her face reddening, but the snake's grip was like iron, and with every breath she took it squeezed tighter, tighter, driving the air from her lungs and all thought from her head but a determination not to let Kraven win, a determination that was slowly being replaced by a grey fog and a powerful ache as she could begin to feel the ribs bend in her chest…

Then suddenly, there was nothing. Only a sudden release of pressure and weight and mindless gasping for air. Weight returned, and she was in the arms of a man, swinging through the air, a smoking rife over his shoulder. The headless body of the snake plummeted past them as they swung on a cable attached to the tree Kraven had been standing and hit the jungle floor with a thump.

“I admire your determination, Mrs. Richards,” he said, looking down at Sue as he lowered them to the ground. “I, too, have sometimes thought to choose **** over defeat. But as I said, the loss of one of your beauty and skills would be a great waste. This hunt is over now. You will redeem your word, and I mine.”

With that, he slung Sue’s limp body over his shoulder and walked off through the jungle.
