Chapter 11 by krystalumpire krystalumpire

Do you try to win this first competition?

No, throw it.

You know full well that winning competitions in the early part of the game can put a target on your back, so you decide going in to let someone else take the win. You just want to do well enough to make sure you don't end up a Have-Not. Your decision made, you head into the house with the others.

As Liam, Marcus, Julian and John make their way through the house into the backyard, they find a set of four podiums with white boards in front of a video screen. They take their spots and Julie Chen comes on to explain the rules.

JULIE CHEN - "Hello again, gentlemen. Welcome to your first competition of the summer. This competition is called Counter Culture, and here's how it works. On the video screen, you'll see a video clip of multiple objects of different colors. At the end of the clip, you'll be asked how many objects of one particular color there were. You'll write down your answer on your white board, then reveal your answers together. Whichever houseguest's answer is furthest away from the correct answer will be eliminated each round. If there is a tie, the round will be replayed. The first houseguest to be eliminated will become a Have-Not this week. The last houseguest remaining will move on to compete for the first Head of Household. Does everyone understand? Then let's begin with the first clip".

A 15-second video clip plays of multi-colored rubber ducks swirling around slowly in a pool is shown. There's about 100 of them altogether, most of them yellow, some blue, and the rest green. At the end of the clip, Julie Chen asks how many green ducks were in the pool. Everyone writes down their answers and reveals them. Liam guessed "15", Marcus "18", Julian "17" and John "16". Julie reveals that the correct answer was 17 green ducks, meaning that Liam is eliminated from the competition and becomes a Have-Not.

Now that you're no longer in danger of being a Have-Not, you feel safe to throw the competition in the next round.

The second video clip is of a group of chickens in a field: most brown, some white and the rest black. There are fewer chickens than there were ducks (around 80), but they also move around more making them harder to keep track of. At the end of the clip, Julie Chen asks how many brown chickens there were. The answers come in with Marcus at "55", John at "30" and Julian at "50". Julie reveals that the correct answer was 48 brown chickens, meaning that John is eliminated.

You undershot your guess and successfully threw the competition. Now all that's left to do is see who wins.

The final video clip is of a birthday cake decorated with sprinkles: a roughly equal amount of blue, red, and purple. There are a lot of sprinkles, so it's impossible to count them all in only 15 seconds. At the end of the clip, Julie Chen asks how many red sprinkles were on the cake. Neither guy looks confident about their guess, but they reveal their answers. Marcus guessed "230" and Julian guessed "201". Julie Chen then reveals the correct answer was 187 red sprinkles, and announces that Julian is the winner of the competition.

The show cuts back to Julie Chen in the studio where she recaps the events of the night so far. Isabel the chemist, Derek the construction foreman, Roxy the tattoo artist and Julian the paralegal have won the chance to compete for the first Head of Household. On the other hand, four other houseguests have lost their competitions and become the first Have-Nots of the season: Victoria the beauty mogul, Eugene the bouncer, Raquel the dancer and Liam the personal trainer. Julie Chen announces that when they return from the next commercial, the houseguests will all get to meet each other for the first time, and the Have-Nots will find out exactly what they're in for.
