How does Devi respond?
New Outfit
"Madison helped me pick out a new outfit for work parties," Devi said. "I think it'll do excellent for dinner."
"I'll be with my driver to pick you up at 7:00 PM," Jonathan said.
"It's a date," she said, winking.
Jonathan switched to a dark grey suit without a tie, his top button unbuttoned. For most men, wearing expensive clothes was a luxury, wearing stylish clothes an afterthought. For him, he saw clothing as a promise.
His driver pulled up outside of an uninteresting apartment building on the outskirts of the city. His siblings called it "Little Poor-ington", because they were not creative when it came to being cruel. Like most cities, this part was cheap to buy property and twenty years after his siblings started calling it "Poor-ington" it was gentrified. A few craft beer breweries, a fancy gift shop, and a few independently owned hipster stores revitalized it. His thoughts on property were short lived when he saw Devi's apartment door open.
Stunning. The only words on Jonathan's mind. Madison must have given her more than just fashion advice. Devi was wearing an elegant silk blue dress. The style was a combination of western sensibilities with draped fabric across her breasts, mimicking the style of an Indian saree.
His driver opened the door and let her into the town car. Jonathan wanted to say how beautiful she looked, but he was her boss.
"How do I look?" Devi asked.
Fuck, Jonathan thought. Then he said, "You clean up well." Before directing his driver to the restaurant.
At the restaurant they were shown to their table by a waitress in black, petite blonde woman in her 20s, Jonathan guessed. As Devi sat she moved the draping fabric over one shoulder, revealing her enticing cleavage.
Jonathan saw his opening, "Devi, do you often dress so provocatively for dinner your boss?"
Devi straightened her posture, "I remember my boss saying I should dress more feminine-"
"Ah! So you are dressing especially for me," I am honored," he said with a wry grin.
Devi's mouth was agape as the waitress came by, "Can I get you anything from the wine or cocktail list?"
"Two Shirley Temples," Jonathan said.
The waitress nodded, as she left Devi raised an eyebrow, "No drinking tonight?"
"I know," Jonathan said, "But I can't be the boss that got himself and/or his assistant drunk to celebrate her first day on the job."
She sighed, "I guess the optics wouldn't look good "
"Precisely, but if you want to treat yourself with a glass of wine with the entree, consider it a gift along with the rest of the meal."
"Any wine? Regardless of price?"
"Any wine."
"Mr. Taylor, you sure do know how to spoil a woman."
"We are celebrating, Miss Singh, you can call me Jonathan... If you are so inclined."
Devi smiled, "I don't know, Jonathan doesn't have the same feeling as Mr. Taylor... or sir... I am your assistant after all."
Jonathan smiled, "I like it when you call me sir."
"Then I'll call you that more often... Sir "
Where does the night lead?
