On Monster Girls
(General Summary)
Before we can discuss the various Monster Girls to exist, we should talk about 'Monster Girls' and what that means. For clarity's sake - across the lands 'Monster Girl' refers to a relatively common form of intelligent humanoid species with varying levels of animalistic or 'monstrous' traits. These might get as **** as a Centaur's horse-like lower half, or body-type that is inherently stockier and over-built in the arms much like an ape, but overall they possess clear and obvious humanlike aesthetic. Artificially imposed origins vary from curse to blessing to magical happenstance to deliberate artifice, but all 'natural' Monster Girls trace their origins to natural parentage or - ultimately - spontaneous manifestation from the Primordial Sea, Goddess Elmerelda, within places her dominion most closely intersects the world (springs, shorelines, tidepools, rivers, virgin grasslands, and so forth).
Reproduction
(Probably why you're looking at this, isn't it?)
Most Monster Girl species - especially Natural Monster Girls - have a peculiar dichotomy to them. When bearing a child conceived traditionally by way ye olde cock & balls, all daughters inherit their mother's species along with a mix of their father's genes (unless the father's own nature dictates otherwise), while all sons inherit their father's species along with certain genes from the mother compatible with it.
Furthermore, as they are more closely tied to Elmerelda than the Civil Species; natural Monster Girls in general tend to be more fertile and possess strong maternal drives. They tend to experience few complications from birth, notably but not absurdly (depending on the species) faster gestation, efficient processing of nutrients for the young (usually via lactation), and possess a liberal perspective regarding sexual intimacy and maternal taboos (particularly from a human or elvish perspective). For those who wish to avoid the guaranteed spoilers reading Elmerelda's profile would assert: Monster Girls tend to be open to mom-play, ****, and oyakadon.
Society
(In broad strokes, anyway.)
Monster Girl 'society' is a misnomer given the sheer variety they express, but we can understand it to fall into four broad categories. In order of furthers to closest to what you, who I presume to be a human reader, would recognize as 'society' they are:
►[ Feral (or 'Wild' depending on who you ask). ]
When discussing 'Feral' Monster Girls one thing must be made abundantly clear as a preface: They are not dumb animals, they simply eschew the rigid bonds of society and civilization as more orderly races would demand in preference to the wild forces which birthed them to begin with. It may perhaps be more appropriate, specifically, to call them 'Primitive' and willfully so. The degree to which this manifests has some slight variance.
Wild Centauride will use tools, but completely eschew clothing and any form of artificial shelter outside the most **** of opportunistic circumstance (and even then, despise the very notion of being within an enclosed room). They travel in large family-herds, and come time to mate will typically scout neighboring species out and either try to seduce males into the herd for use as studs or take them by ****. Contrarily, Faer Elves will also use tools and adore clothing of all kinds as means of adornment... without an ounce of care for its proper or intended use, dependent upon their whims and creativity... yet don't particularly feel any close ties to any other Faer Elves beyond their direct lineage, which is a rare occurrence to begin with since they - unlike 'proper' fair folk - tend to keep to themselves and their own indulgence. The odds they seek a partner are rather low, and it usually only occurs if a viable mate happens to tickle their fancy in just the right way.
►[ Domestic (or 'Pet/Livestock' if you're... narrow-minded. ]
One step closer to 'proper' societal behavior is the 'Domestic' monster girl. From the humble and magnificently mammalian Cow Girl to the diligently loyal Dog Girl, these are Monster Girls who integrate themselves into the social groups of other races in a typically dependent, yet symbiotic, manner. Beyond the obvious (security, food, lodging), the inherent and oft-lopsidedly transactional nature of Domestic Monster Girls manifests in a variety of ways. The Cow Girl provides milk in exchange for breeding opportunities, and, well, the process of milking itself. The Dog Girl provides the closest to absolute loyalty one can get outside of supernal forces for no greater price than a place, purpose, and reciprocal affection.
However, one must understand that - outside the various mere technically 'domestic' Thrall sub-species - Domestic Monster girls are not slaves. A Dog Girl who does not feel appropriately loved in return for her loyalty will seek the nearest opportunity to abandon her 'master' or even report them to the local authorities if she's sufficiently upset. A Cow Girl who feels sufficiently neglected or abused will frequently wander off-pasture or out of barn, quite possibly never to return. Grimly and, indeed, fascinatingly - such examples will, if they venture into the wilds and survive - often 'evolve sideways' into their Wild Counterparts (Wolf Girls and Ox Girls respectively.)
Regardless of their ability to leave or willingness to stay - if a truly civilized personage is discovered treating a Domestic Monster Girl poorly - particularly so poorly they might consider eschewing society entirely - they will find these wondrous, willfully subordinate creatures protected quite similarly to their own peers in the arms of the law.
►[ Adventurer and Civil (Two sides of the same coin, really). ]
Lastly, we come to the Civil Monster Girl and her Adventurer cousin. Sister? Niece? I dither. These are two very similar categories, in this author's opinion, distinct only in the fundamental motive of the Monster Girl in question. Civil Monster Girls - the broader category - are content to find themselves in a wide variety of roles and occupations much like you or I. Contrarily, the Adventurer seeks Adventure. Indeed, quite intuitive, I know, but let us break this down so that one does not misunderstand the niche as a subset of its supposed parent.
A Civil Monster Girl, such as Maeraegean Reefs' Coral-Dracaena, occupies (as a species) the full spectrum of society. From farming, to baking, to soldiering, to banking, and even to governing or administrating. Adventurer Monster Girls, such as most Harpies and some specific variants of Dog Girl, only find fulfillment in the heat of battle, the edge of the unknown, the cusp of danger, and so forth; they are, universally (as a species), driven by thrill-seeking, wanderlust, or some derivative thereof.
Either way, these Monster Girls - Adventurer and Civil alike - both integrate and work with, within, or for the sake of, society. The only key difference between them and their 'less' civil Domestic Counterparts is the drive to self-determinate as opposed to subsume oneself into their 'inherent' niche. Thusly, the highly-intelligent and capable Forgewives and Alewives of the dwarves, around which entire communities or clans might revolve and even obey, are still 'Domestic' Monster Girls as opposed to Civil due to their universal (or near-as) contentment to fulfill their natural roles to tend the forge, the bar, and the community. It should then go without saying: Civil Monster Girls and 'Adventurer' Monster Girls alike are, indeed, still your legal peers.
