Chapter 2 by bobjohnson12 bobjohnson12

Who was on the other side of the door?

Mom!

Jake opens the door to see a familiar silhouette. With his mouth agape, the silhouette pushes him inside and quickly closes the door.

"Jakie, what are you doing here?" Jake's mom says.

"Mom, this must be a mistake. How did you find me?" Jake asks.

"I didn't know you were here." She starts, before changing her tune. "I mean, I followed you here. And what on earth are you doing here young man? You shouldn't be wasting your money."

"Mom, it's not what it looks like. The umm, library was closed. So I had to book a room here to study." Jake says, unconvincingly.

Jake's mom looks around the room. "And where are your books? Hard to study without any books."

"Uh, my friend is bringing them. The one who's house I was going to go to. We changed plans and are going to meet up here to study. Actually, he is probably on the way, so you should probably leave now." Jake says, ushering his mom towards the door.

Jake's mom cracks a smile. "I think I will stick around. I would like to meet this friend that you are so embarrassed to bring around our home." Jake's mom takes a seat on the bed, not intending to leave anytime soon.

"Mom, please. This is embarrassing. Can we not do this right now?" Jake pleads.

Having the upper hand, Jake's mom doubles down. "I think we can drop the act now. Tell me the truth about what's going on here."

Does Jake tell the truth?
