Mind reading

Mind reading may be the simplest spell for a mind mage but it is still very complicated. To enter another person’s mind, you have to be carefully to not break anything. It is like walking between close standing towers made of fragile wine glasses. One wrong move could cause terrible damage. Well, the good thing is, the mind of the chimera is mostly filled with simple, stable self-preservation. And you don't have to protect anything here anyway.

You release your mana and let it flow to your hand, where it forms a circle of white light. You mumble some runes and they appear in the circle and form the spell. When this is done, you look at the chimera, which is still looking at you to figure out what you are doing. You close your hand, the circle disappears and for a moment you feel kind of dizzy. This happens sometimes when you enter another mind. Now you have a connection to the chimera. You can feel it’s anger and confusion. And it’s ending patience. It does not know you already did something.

The chimera comes closer and growls warning. But this is not a problem for you, because you can see more than just what happens right now. You see a ghostly figure on four legs always a few steps in front of the chimera. It is its mind form. The figure does what the chimera is going to do. Now the figure gets faster. It runs straight towards you and attacks with its big mouth. A second later, the chimera does exactly the same. But you are prepared and can easily avoid the attack. In fact, you can even pull out your knife, which you always keep with you, and cut a bleeding wound at the chimeras side.

The monster screams in pain and anger. It immediately turns around and growls at you. The next attack follows quickly. And sadly, with increasing anger, the chimera gets quicker and the mind figure gets blurry. It does not focus on the attacks anymore. You can dodge the second attack with luck, but the third attack knocks you to the ground.

Your connection is lost and you have no idea where the monster is. You struggle to get up and prepare to dodge the next attack, but it is too late. A burning pain shoots through your body when the scorpion tail stings right through you. Warm blood splashes on the ground and poison takes its place in your vines. You can’t do anything to prevent it. Your only remaining hope is, that the chimera kills you quickly.
