Chapter 8

They Talk
Men Talk
I couldn’t believe that June not only cheated but that she drove my car away without calling me to say she was taking it. Technically it possibly amounted to car thief, since she rarely ever took her license when we drove anywhere together. Hell for all I knew she was galivanting around town looking for someone to cheat with.
I had ****, I couldn’t ask Nancy to drive me home, in case June was there already, so I called a cab and directed the cabbie to where I live. He must have got the hint that I didn’t want to talk and drove me there in silence. Upon pulling up in front of my place I got out and threw the driver a fifty to cover the fare and told him to keep the rest as a tip.
Turning to look at the house I saw a light on in the living room. I swallowed and started to make my way up the driveway when I heard my name called from Doug off on to my left.
“Hey Bill, is it possible I can talk to you?”
At first I was more than ready to ignore Doug and go inside but when he said, “It concerns events that happened with June Earlier tonight!” That grabbed my full attention.
“Oh god what happened Doug?”
I have always considered Doug to be more than a neighbor, he was my best friend out of the office. The one thing I really like about Doug is he never held anything back between us and tonight was no different.
“I saw June pull up into the driveway and appeared to have trouble getting the door open, So like a good neighbor I came over and offered to help her. Then out of nowhere June asked me if I wanted to help her cheat on you!”
Oh god, I didn’t want to hear about what happened next, especially in case it was what I was thinking. But Doug, like the friend I always considered him, eased my mind.
“I left immediately and went home only to have June come over and try to apologize in case she offended me. I told her that i never wanted to talk with her ever again then she left and I went back to reading my bible!”
Oh god I didn’t know if I should be thankful to Doug for saying no to her or to be offended that he didn’t think June was worth cheating with. Man, was I screwed up inside. I let my action speak volumes for me
“Thanks Doug, I’ll take it from here!” About to turn and go back home when I stopped. “Many would have taken her up on that but you were a true friend Doug and I appreciate that more than you could know!
Doug and I shook hands and then I went home to have it out with the woman who was supposed to know me. Lord, I had no idea how I was going to tell her after what I saw her do in our car!
Going Home
