Map of the known world

(Author's note: This map is something I made to help those who want it get an overview of the setting. It is not perfect or perfectly to scale and I have chosen to only label rough regions and some key points, as trying to parcel out imperial provinces and shit turned out to be a major hassle. Also, that leaves me some freedom to make changes if I feel the need later. I also want to make it clear that the map is meant to be in-universe. It is a map made by an imperial cartographer and as such, shows only what is known to them. Those little rivers stubs in the elfands for example probably are a lot longer and go somewhere, but no one has any real clue where, as no one has set foot in those lands. I have also chosen to put in VERY major rivers/lakes only for now. Feel free to imagine that there are many, many more bodies of water in this world. Forests and other terrain as well, but again I have only marked what is relevant for now. This of course is only the main continent as well as one major island. Distances are also pretty large, I want to make that clear. The empire is huge and even though they might look close on the map, one cannot see the peaks from the Andros estate, and there's another province in between The Lower Heartland and the lawless lands at the base of those mountains. Even with all that though, I hope this helps you guys get an overview of where this story plays out.)

On the wall of the great study in the Andros estate hung a truly massive map depicting most of the known world. Vel had often found himself staring at it, imagining those faraway lands and dreaming of visiting them someday. Who knew what the unknown wilds really held, imperial explorers had barely penetrated the dense jungles past the coastline. There were stories of fantastical beasts roaming the dense woodland and huge cities made of gold hidden deep within. And the warring states of the far southwest where, according to some historians, there had once been an empire to rival the Toranian one. Vel dreamt of seeing it all. It was unlikely that a cripple like him would ever be able to though, and unlikely that his father would ever allow the family's shame to parade himself around the world. Even with his 18th birthday and thus his adulthood drawing close, those dreams of travel seemed as unreachable as ever.
