Making friends
The campus was full of signs welcoming new students and directing them towards sign in. There were a few tables for everything and before long you were signed in, had your room key and were directed to a waiting area for a tour. You stood by a sign that simply read "Tours" and waited for a moment before you were finally joined by a girl a little shorter than you with a full figure, short blonde hair and the same nervous look on her face you were certain you were currently sporting.
"Hi," she offered quietly.
"Hi," you replied, "I'm John."
"Goldie," she replied.
A pause followed and your mind drifted back to Iris on the train, what did you have to be nervous about?
"What are you majoring in?" you asked.
"Biology," said Goldie, "not sure after that."
"Oh cool so we'll be in the same department," you said, "I'm studying virology. You dorming?"
"Yea," said Goldie, "first time away from home."
"Same," you said, "I never left where I lived in Alabama until this week."
"Never?" asked Goldie, "not even for like a vacation?"
"Nope," you said, "overbearing parent. Where's home to you?"
"Portland," she started, "Oregon, my parents wanted me to go away, they said I needed the real college experience."
"Hey there," came another voice.
A tall thin blonde walked over wearing a university tee.
"You must be my two new biology students," she said reading off a clipboard, "John and Goldie right?"
You both nodded in affirmation.
"Great!" she said, "I'm Haley, I'm going to be showing you around."
If all of the girls at this school were going to be as attractive as Goldie and Haley you were beginning to wonder if you would be able to focus at all. Haley showed you the dining hall, the book store, the different academic buildings and finally Goldie's dorm.
"Well I'll let you get settled," said Haley, "if you need anything just ask."
"OK," said Goldie, "where can I buy stuff for my dorm, I've really just got clothes and school supplies?"
"There's a target in town," said Haley, "a shuttle by the dining hall can take you."
"Thanks," said Goldie, "I have a car."
Haley turned to walk you towards your dorm but you paused. Goldie might be able to drive you to town or you could take the shuttle Haley suggested.
Goldie or the Shuttle?
Away From Home
A world of new experiences awaits
You've lived in a small town in Alabama for your whole life, your overbearing mother homeschooled you and decided who you could and couldn't spend time with. Now, against her wishes you've been accepted to a university in Southern California, will you stay on the straight and narrow or succumb to any of the various temptations?
