Magic show

Upon seeing me, my mother in law takes me by the hand and leads me to a wooden stage that they had set up in the yard. She is wearing a magician’s hat and holding a cane.

“It’s a magic show, hon!” My mother in law exclaims. “I’ve been secretly taking magic classes as a surprise for you.”

I inwardly roll my eyes. I’m not a child but this is starting to feel like a kid’s birthday party. I outwardly feign excitement. “You did all this for me? Wow. This is fantastic. I take it that you’ll be the entertainment for this party, then?” I wink at her.

My mother in law replies “Oh I think we’ll both be entertaining all these lovely ladies. I will need a volunteer for my act. Speaking of my act, which trick would you like me to perform first? Disappearing? Hypnosis?”
